Hey George, I love that you see this issue from both sides. Here's the thing about clicking on the subscription tab, the reason I found many of the channels I subscribed to is because of what came across my feed! If I go to subscriptions first, I miss exposure to new channels. Truth be told, I go to my subscriptions and watch a smattering of videos from my fav channels and then I break away to do whatever I was supposed to do when I spent an hour or so on KZbin (I don't put on tv shows as much as I start the day watching KZbin and often watch it later in the day). The benefit of notifications is that even if I don't watch it then, it serves as an ad for the channel. It's like seeing a brand behind home plate - the reminder benefits that company's sales. I think that your comparison videos had my greatest interest (even though I've made a few of your recipes, its the comparison videos that had the most impact on what I buy and use). Your cheffy review of the knife sharpeners and pans enhanced the comparison vids. That being said, if you make it I will watch!

Ever since discovering YT over 10 years ago I work from the subscriptions page, unless I really want something different. I didn't even realize the main page was custom tailored for years. Another good tip is to click the Like button. I now do that for every video on small channels, and ones I like on large channels. FYI ... George, I discovered you while on the hunt for a high quality replacement for my small nonstick pan. I was watching a ton of cookware reviews, yours was one, and I liked your content. 2 videos later, and you had another subscriber. [I bought a Hestan nano on loss leader price, and am very happy with it.]

The issue with relying on the subscriptions page is that you miss out on discovering fantastic content. I rarely use the subscriptions page and love what the algorithm whips up. I find that when KZbin brings up the subscriptions page automatically sometimes, it’s all usually lackluster stuff. The algorithm knows what people want to watch through all of the way and promotes accordingly.

I ONLY watch via the SUBSCRIPTION tab. Now, KZbin still gets a shot to suggest next once, when the video ends IF I don't take advantage of a video end screen (and BTW you should really add an endscreen outro so a viewer can binge your content) A nit-pick: @2:57 you said "only 5% of your subscribers watch" BUT you have 87k views on 47k subscribers - which says that on average a subscriber watches your videos only 1.8 times. Now I know you meant "only 5% of your views are from subscribers" which may be an issue but I suspect that cooking/food in an evergreen/search based niche. Ironically this means endscreen outro pointer are critical to keep viewers on your content! In conclusion, your videos are great, I fully digest them (pun intended), don't worry about vanity metrics just keep popping these great vids and you'll catch Ethan and Brian and Mike in no time! !!

Hey, I don't know if I agree w u because I have clicked on one of my subscribed channels only to have Utube put on a video totally unrelated next. If I select a subscribed channel, I want to watch the content of that channel. It seems to me, KZbin has its own favorites.

Yes KZbin will still make suggestions even if you click on that button. For the most part, you get to see what the channels you subscribed to have released. Just did it an hour ago and caught up on some great videos that were not showcased on my homepage. All the best and thanks for reaching out!

Regardless of how much content is uploaded the algorithms filters out many videos I may like based on past choices whether I liked it or not. So it pretty much boils down to "... I've got thirteen channels of sh*t on the t.v. to chose from..." to use Pink Floyd's metaphor.
