Now *that* was a _lot_ of water! I've used the same recipe, more or less, to waterproof a bed sheet, making a tarp out of it and the recipe leaves it not only waterproof, but flexible, too, so it can be crumpled and packed into your backpack without cracking...very handy, when you are in a rush to break camp. Thank you for uploading.

Yes, I use it also for a lot of things. For more than good 😅 It's an easy and good solution.

Does it make the fabric stronger...? How is the tent today...?
@BelgianDuke6 ай бұрын
The tent is still in use today. I feel like the fabric became more UV resistant. Never had any leaks so far. 🙂

@@BelgianDuke great news, thank you, I am going to do a bike tent that I'll be using for storage. Thanks for your reply 💯👍🏽

Is it necessary to give a new tent additional water proof impregnation? How long does this protect? I would expect a 2nd wall would be a better improvement not only against water but also temperatur insulation with longer durability, ok but with more cost and more material weight.
@BelgianDuke2 жыл бұрын
Have you seen? My leaked like a sieve. Most tents I've bought leak at some point. That's why I've added the solution. Now I've got no issue anymore. 🙂

Are there any stains/ marks after the brush on? Are there any smells too? Thanks for sharing your ideas. Cheers, r
@BelgianDuke Жыл бұрын
If you use clear transparent silicone it'll be nearly invisible. I used grey coloured silicone and applied it with a brush. This gave it better camouflage. My area is a bit rocky. After this long time I didn't maintain it any way and it is still totally waterproof. 🙂

What was the solvent you used?
@BelgianDuke2 жыл бұрын
It is White Spirit, like mineral spirit. 👍
@billyandrew2 жыл бұрын
They call it mineral spirit in the US. We, in the UK, call it the same as you, white spirit.

Can I make a cheap tent waterproof?
@BelgianDuke2 жыл бұрын
Of course. The tent I showed in the video has cost me about 40 dollars. It has endured many trips and so far I'm satisfied with the quality. Only the design isn't so great. After doing the silicone mixture on my tent it has been totally waterproof. No leaks so far. 🙂
@skateboardingjesus4006 Жыл бұрын
That brand of silicone isn't pure and is mixed with other ingredients. It's poor quality for waterproofing. You should only use the completely clear stuff that says "100% silicone" because it does a far superior job and lasts longer.
@stuartchester6899 Жыл бұрын
I think that is because its more sticky.There are brands whcih say they are the most sticky and grab better than any other so they may actually work even better
@Golden-dog88 Жыл бұрын
i wana see YOUR waterproofing video using PURE SILICONE
@skateboardingjesus4006 Жыл бұрын
@@Golden-dog88 I don't make KZbin videos, so why do you assume I've made one? But if you are ever waterproofing something, use the completely clear stuff. It will actually have "100% silicone" printed on the side. My waterproofed camping bags have taken some heavy downpours like champs and have seen some heavy use.

I’m going to buy a tent for a homeless person and do this…I hope this works

It does work. My tent remained waterproof for at least 2 years. It probably would have worked longer if my tent didn't wear out. Keep up the good work 👍

Just stay away from single wall tents....
@BelgianDuke2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. 🙂
@billyandrew2 жыл бұрын
Single walls are fine, so long as you prepare them. Let's be honest, you'd be asking for trouble using them in winter, but they do keep you cooler in warm weather, it's just the manufacturers need to up their game and take the seams more seriously.
@giorgibulia9052 жыл бұрын
@@billyandrew In warm weather you can simply remove rain cover from your 2 layer tent so it will be cooler then single layer, because most of 2 layer tents inner layer is partially or even mostly from net so airflow is much better then in single layer.

i have a 3 double walled tents they ALL have the SAME PROBLEM…. The shit water resistance they put on them from the factory DOSE NOT LAST…. It DOSE NOT matter if you bought a $50 tent at kmart or a $1000 tent from a camping store its the SAME FAULT ACROSS THE ENTIRE RANGE…. IT DOSNT LAST 1 SUMMER IN AUSTRALIA
