For anyone concerned with getting a good seal, I highly recommend getting a little silicone mats that have circles depressed in them. It makes it easy to pour the wax in the little wells and and you get that nice raised edge because the well is giving your wax something to bump up against. I hope that makes sense. I bought these little silicone wells on Amazon

I enjoy your lives, regardless of what you are creating. I am laughing because the phrase "what's old is new again" holds true for the wax seals. There was a time, most likely before you were born, that I put a wax seal on my envelopes The wax was like a small candle, I know I had 2 seals. When I retired, I went through everything in my house and garage and cleaned out, and I believe I got rid of them. It's way overdue to clean out my craft room again, so I'll be looking for them. A heavy weight buttonhole thread (for hand sewing button holes, not machine use) or light weight DMC Peal cotton thread may be the weight you’re looking for.

Stampin Up has a nice twine called "linen thread". You may like that to replace your finished spool of hemp twine!!

Yes wax seals live would be wonderful. We used wax seals for my son's wedding invitations and to attach the seating cards to a mirror at the reception. It was so much fun making them with my future daughter-in-law!

Dumb question but do you notice any difference between the 1970s stamps and the modern ones? I've been wondering if the weight, depth of the design etc has changed at all and if using old wax seals gave a different experience. As someone who generally swears on old stuff...

@@RamoArt I haven't tried the stamps that Nichol is using but the stamps from mom are definitely a different weight, even though the stamp face is smaller, the entire thing is made from metal versus a wooden handle. I do have a couple more modern stamps. Both those and mom's work well. I'm excited to try the brand Nichol showed!

My go to is to take real dried flowers (lavender, rosemary) or die cut flowers/stems, put them on a card or tag and pour a wax seal on top. I'm sure you have dies for some twigs, flowers etc. If not, Spellbinders has released lots of dies just for this purpose. I like the more imperfect look you get when pouring over the stems, but you could always adhere a finished seal. Same thing goes for tags. On wrapped presents pouring (or gluing) a wax seal over the knot or part of the ribbon looks beautiful. You can also think of wax seals as glue dots more or less and adhere the name tag to a gift underneath a wax seal. Another option is to get in the habit of putting cards that you hand deliver into envelopes. This gives you another opportunity to use a seal and watching people open a wax sealed envelope is super fun. Lastly, random acts of kindness! I make little tags that say "Thank you" for when I encounter very kind people. Sentiment on one side, a die cut and a wax seal on the other side and you've made someone's day.

WOW, Nichol.... what a great, FUN card! I really enjoyed this video & YES - a LIVE wax seal video would be great (& any other videos you make)! Also, more videos using the BetterPress .... I have just received mine & so excited! I have thought about trying them wax seals for a long time (just wasn't sure how often I would use them). It does look like so much fun, especially to use them on cards, rather than just for the envelope. Was this completed card significantly heavier, with those 9 seals on it?

Yes to all the things live! I recently bought the wax seals as well and can't wait to give it a try. I wondered if foundry wax dripped into the wax right before setting the seal in would produce a marbling effect. I've go soo many ideas 😂 As for the twine, jute twine might be what you're looking for, its very thin. Love the card, can't wait to see more like it!

I would absolutely love to see more cards with the wax seals… a lot of the examples/videos I’ve seen have only used one seal as more of an accent piece than a focal point or repetitive design element like you did here, so I would enjoy seeing more like this very original card!

Would a mini silicone spatula work for scraping the wax out of thr spoon… I am new to waxing but this video was really helpful. Amazon has these these little metal frame dies (like flowers, various shapes) that you can pour your wax into to get that gets you a a really pretty finished edge…

They aren't brittle at all. You can cut them with scissors for layering if you want to.

I love making seals but I have a problem. The spoon turns black on the the backside that is against the flame. I noticed yours did not do this. What am I doing wrong?

It depends on the distance between the flame and the spoon. Try using a candle that's burnt halfway already.
