Thank you, but remember covering one's body has nothing people do with what is in the heart.

I can understand that you can respect the sisters, but wearing a hijab, and wearing a habit are two very different meanings, a black **burkka (sp) is has a very different meaning than the black in the habit. A hijab is for modesty, a habit is a symbolism for being dead in the world. The one thing you have in comparision is shorn hair. There are certain orders that the women/girls are to sacrifice their hair and keep it extremely short or even shaved.

I lived in an convent orphanage ,,, and saw the sisters wear their full habits ,,( the Gray sisters of the Cross) or some call them sisters of charity in Canada,) I just loved it ,,, I feel sad that they don't wear it anymore ,,, we need reminders of the bigger picture of God in our lives ,, Modernism lost their way and are now truly lost ,,, we need help ,, I hope some day their habits comes back for all to see, even though some do , but not enough ,,

Do you attend a Traditional Pre-Vatican II Mass. If you do not, I could help you find one in your area. There are more traditional nuns and Priest that you may be aware of. Praise Be God, in His Angels and in His Saints. +JMJ

I am no longer a proper "Christian", however after being at the church all day, every day, 7 days a week for 7 years, i still wear a (now personalised) habit, and I have tons of respect for my sisters who may have worn it since long before i Was born, and still do.

I never met a Religious Sister I was afraid of (and all my Grade School Teachers were Franciscan Sisters) until after their revolution in the late 60s. Then i met some with an axe to grind, and had become mean-spirited and vindictive--hostile as hell. Filled with, as the book about them said, "ungodly rage."

11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6, 11-18

What is it with all the straight pins? Seems to me that's just asking to get poked at various times, or, lose one on the floor and then someone steps on it. Do they have something against snaps or safety pins?

Most of Catholic religious history there was no such thing as safety pins or snaps for religious habits. It could still be used for tradition in orders that still need pins for their habit

Back to the past and an angel take the hindmost. Why change the habit of a lifetime. A London stage actually collapsed when mounting a production of The Sound of Music and in Oxford cinemas a gang of students would regularly reveal German uniforms under their raincoats and give Nazi salutes once the troops appeared in the film to absorb Austria. Christopher Plummer called the film The Sound of Mucus..

Why do Muslims, Nuns, and orthodox Jews all call for this headscarf thing?
@eleanorel59188 күн бұрын
Muslim women wear a hijab believing it is a command from God modesty wise. Orthodox Jew women who are married cover their own hair(with a head covering although some will wear a wig over their own hair) Nuns typically wear a black veil to symbolize their total consecration to God, dead to the world with their solemn vows. Catholicism doesn’t teach that women need to cover their hair to be modest although many will still wear a veil in a church at least, a few will wear head coverings regularly

@eleanorel59188 күн бұрын
Most nuns and monks who join orders with habits love them. When older and maybe struggling with dressing, others can help dress or the head of the convent could allow for lesser items or adjusted habit
@spaceflight10192 жыл бұрын
I've always wanted to be dressed in a habit by nuns and to spend a day experiencing the life, to write about it. In a George Plimpton kinda way.
