Great video, Aaron. After watching, I hit the buy button on a grey tweed vest with red, blue and cream accents. I like to rock the "professor" look when seeing patients. Fall and winter = corduroy, chukkas, oxford button downs and wool knit ties. I was thinking to pick up a tan, smoother material vest as well and think yours looks great. Not sure how often you check your comments, this is an 8 year old video, but WOW!! I AM a Vest wearer. And there is a confidence that I feel, when I go all out vest, jeans, boots, and tie; also a nice cap! You have totally summed up my "Comfortable" going out clothes, formal, etc. I have all sorts of vests!! I just discovered you and this video today and was just THRILLED to know that there is someone out there that gets it. Thank You! I also just watched your video about Cocktail attire. Hehehehehe. Just this past Saturday, we went to a Niece's wedding. The attire said Cocktail. I had nothing; even went thrifting and couldn't find anything. So what did I do? Vest, jeans, my favorite Aldo boots and a Tie. Perfect. I mean, a few years ago, my Sister-in-law even commented one thanksgiving dinner.... "You always wear vest." (when coming to any family, holiday, gathering.) Thank You for making my day. You really don't know how much watching this video has lifted my spirit and how much it is making me feel better about myself. Ain't going to lie. I've been in a very deep depression for the past several months and this video, though it's just hundreds that you made, it really made feel good. I wore a waistcoat (Dark grey with blue wool) with black shirt dark grey tie and jeans brown Chelsea boots matching belt... With long woollen coat (hey it is cold here) I had great results, a lot of positive attention and I felt comfortable wearing this... I would not have tried this combo without this video...

I am personally someone who wears a vest 90% of the time. No matter where I go or what I'm doing; if I leave the house - sometimes around the house - i have a vest on. The part about standing out and getting noticed, 100% gospel! Everything mentioned in this video is super solid advice. The only piece I dont agree with is the part about the belt. Do not wear a belt, please. Even with a pair of Jean's or other pants with belt loops, find and wear suspenders. Wearing suspenders in place of a belt is not ultra hipster advice. It is practical and has to do with the line of the silhouette. Wearing a belt usually will cinch the waist below the bottom of the vest, thus making your stomach stick out from your waist - even on fit guys. Suspenders pull your pants up and under the vest without cinching creating a single flowing line from the legs to the torso. It's a small detail but makes a huge difference. Also for the love of god, please make sure you get a vest that fits. Most importantly the length, waist and chest has some forgiveness to them, but the length, that has to be spot on. Basically, make sure it's long enough (and pants are high enough) that it transitions from pants to vest. You should not see any of your shirt in between. Thanks for making a great video and I hope to see more men taking the leap.

I'd never considered a vest as I always thought them to be something that you only wore with a 3 piece suit & I was just a jeans & t shirt guy. I recently decided to upgrade my wardrobe to suit my age more, I'm 63. I ditched most of my t shirts except for a few polos & plain black, white & grey t shirts. I've since bought quite a few button down shirts. I have a brown suede vest my wife bought me ages ago that I only wore if we went out for dinner but now I've started wearing it for general wear & love it so much I have 4 more vests on order. Vests are cool & awesome. I even bought a pocket watch to wear with them. Glad my wife helped me discover the mighty Vest.

alpha, i love your videos. great job, great info. here is my question/situation...i love wearing a three piece suit..and when i am in the office i like to take off the coat. problem is..my dress shirt tends to flair up/untuck and pop through between the vest and pants. i dont normally have this problem when wearing a standard suit or shirt/pants. i read somewhere of wearing suspenders under the vest. i dont like that idea. any suggestions?

I own a few vests. Couple leathers, and a few casual western styles. One with the black back part and the rest are solid one material. I like them a lot but I’ve had very few opportunities to actually wear them. I always felt over dressed when wearing them. I want to try them out again since it’s been a year or two since I’ve worn them. The weather is about to get cold again and it seems like a good time to break them out with the long sleeved shirts.

I'd say that a nice pair of chinos would be a style notch above a nice looking pair of jeans. I'm not a fashion expect like Alpha, but chinos are meant to be a dress-casual look, so a vest would probably work nicely!
