Goodmorning , at last a tuto , how weather an action figure 1/6 . Bravo , i was doing that with Humbro Enamel very diluted but you can't see hardly something . If you try thicker paints, the fabric gets hard, it's very delicate to find the in between .I was surfing on the net and i just dicover your video , i thought , i have to do that , i have more than 80 figurines to weather and about 42 mint in box ! I order pastels at Amazon, i got them but when i tried alcoho itl didn't make any effects , they were oily ones, so i had to use gasoline F but the odor is terrible . Anyway i learned something from you and i am happy . Thank you . Greetings from France . Best Regards Laurent Deckers

One thing I did to wx mine was to remove the clothing and rub spots like the elbows, knees, and seat of the clothes on concrete. It gives it a great worn look as well as natural coloring.

Not bad - just using alcohol and pastels is a neat trick. I fully agree that your first decision should be where the guy has seen action - mud is different, and so is dust and dirt. However, the next decision should be for how long the guy has seen action - the more action, the more dirt. And don't pay any attention to that silly notion that "less is more" - some soldiers literally swim through mud, and that could show.

Could you do a video on how to do blood? Like dried blood, fresh blood, maybe different types of wounds.
@mementomori1320

Garnalenpeller I would recommend using a mixture of red food dye and some vinegar, try dabbing it onto were ever for your blood. Dry blood would require you to make a brownish red look but I wouldn't know how to mix that sadly.

Very cool. I had a book it was a German book that showed how to weather the troops especially the Dragon German WW2 guys to make them more indicative to the terrain that they were fighting in. For example if they were mortar guys or bazooka loaders or firers the kind of blackened parts thanks to the black powder or explosives used.

I love the idea of using chalk to weather. I have never weathered any of my figures before so before seeing your video I was pretty nervous. Knowing it's not necessarily permanent if I don't like my results is a huge relief. I will be working on a Book of Eli inspired figure that is just waaaay too clean to be believable living in a post apocalyptic world. I'm still waiting for the figure to show up but now im extra excited for the day it does. Thank you for sharing your techniques and a great video!!!

I like to use chapstick on areas with a high sweat area like the collar on uniforms as well as the end of sleeves and areas a human sweats alot. These tend to be areas that accumulate dirt and oils as well as equipment that tend to be handled daily ( pockets, pouches , magazine pouches first aid etc) The helmet is a big one especally inside the sweat guard leather and chin strap. Then add chalk to add wear and tear to the uniform maybe a little sandpaper to add rips in the knees and elbows as well.

Just remember...not every soldier would have the same "weathering" look. Grunts would have dirty knees, belly, butts,...where an officer would have different "dirt" and stains than the rest of the men...so, there is NO wrong way to weather a troop. As long as you are happy, the rest of your troops will be happy too. 😉

I hadn't done much with weathering fabric before and its so easy to go to dark and/or inconsistent with washes, but this method is great since you can layer it or wash it out if ya go too dark. Nice Video, I need your help, I ordered the Chris Taylor Platoon Hot toys and I want to weather this figure up making it look professional and I am new to this. What would be the best way to weather him with dark jungle mud and dirt. I see there are a lot of mud color paints out there(also earth color paints) would that be my best bet? Unless you think chalk looks more realistic… I want this to be very real looking weathering every bit of detail on this fig, any suggestions? Thanks

Hiya Luna! I use lots of different materials to "weather" my figures. My top 3 are: craft chalks, cheap craft paints, and alcohol to thin the paint. Never be afraid to use "real" life items as well, like dirt from the back yard, or grass to "grind" into the clothing. Remember, you are trying to simulate the natural look of a real "soldier in the field"... Good luck, and keep us posted on the progress! 😊

Wow neat. I have a question for you if you see this, I recently got the Pvt Ryan paratrooper figure and I would like to start weathering the uniform, but I want to get his patches on before I soil the uniform so it is natural. They came separately in the box and I'm unsure how to apply them onto something so small, they aren't the practical sticker type. Wouldn't ironing them on be too risky for such a small item? Just afraid of damaging or burning the jacket and patches. Thanks!
@A.M.O.Adventures
@A.M.O.Adventures 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by. As for the patches/insignia, I use Elmers wood glue, and a toothpick to apply them. The glue is water based, so, if you need to remove them it will wash out of the uni pretty easy with out much mess. Some people use 2 sided fabric tape, I don't like it, as it raises the patch off the uniform and looks out of scale, not to mention it wont stay on longer than a year depending on the humidity in your area. Hope this helps

Hi Sonia...Thanks for the kind words. The fig in this video is a Soldier Story nude, with a mix of equipment added ("bashed"). I think the best for collectors just starting is DML (Dragon) fairly cheap, well made, and endless equipment available.
