I was so glad to see this! My Jengo has serious hand hatred but has been loving target training. He is afraid of everything, but has been doing great learning tricks. He even devouring his new toys for the first time in 21 years. I am hoping to get his sleeping conquered by moving him into a dark room but can't handle him. I don't want to roll his cage so maybe I could transfer him into a sleeper cage instead? So glad to have found you guys!

Love this goal! Sleep is an important foundation to have in place, so it is worth putting the effort into training and targeting is a great tool to accomplish this!

I really appreciated this video because my cockatiel (your favourite species) comes to me but only on his terms, not when i want him to so I haven't been able to weigh him. I am looking forward to trying your method, it makes more sense then waiting until he feels like coming to me and try to get him off me onto a scale.

I just rescued a 15 year old yellow naped Amazon. The first part of his life he was locked in a closet, then the second owner who was somewhat good with him passed away. I got him from the owners daughter who admitted she didn't know about birds. So far on a few occasions he let me touch his beak and side of his head but other than that he's not having it. He hasn't had a lot of human contact or enrichment. Now I'm not a novice bird owner I've rehabilitated a number of large birds many pluckers, screamers and just about everything under the sun. My sun conure is an absolute love bug and we have a strong bond. Now the Amazon watches me hold and play so I'm hoping that helps him understand im here for the long haul and a nice human. Another thing I think is that he's protective of his cage. So it's only been a day and ½. But I'm thinking I might have to get him out of his cage and see how he is. I just couldn't leave this bird behind and it had such a terrible life so I have jumped into rehabilitating him. But he's got quite the can opener for a beak.

If you have a bigger cage with a wider entrance, and the bird is at the stage when it doesn't want to go out of the cage or not target trained, then what I do is I buy those round kitchen scale, put it on the bottom and put food bown on it... so when the bird flies on it, it weights itself automatically :)
@platitudestern5149 Жыл бұрын
Just make sure you cancel out the weight of the food. 😅 even .2 grams off could be bad.. depending on the size of your bird obviously
@irinafischer3211 Жыл бұрын
@@platitudestern5149 of course :) you put the weight of the bowl with food as 0, and then you watch :D the momemt the bird lands on the bowl you have your weight :)

That's something I can work towards. Working on diet conversion but old diet is kept available because treats are not high enough on value. Working with untrained 25 year old rescues are a lesson on patience.
@BirdTricks Жыл бұрын
Diet conversion for these older rescues can be challenging for sure! I encourage you to book an online consultation with our consultant, Kim, she has been through this with older rescues and can offer a lot of support so you can make progress safely. birdtricksstore.com/products/kim-russell

I did away with the t-stand portion right away. Mojito has no problem stepping up on the flat surface of the scale. He knows it is part of his breakfast routine. Stable is the key.
@paulablomberg153 Жыл бұрын
I used to breed rats and agility trained them and stuff like that. It was important to keep an eye on their weight and to keep the gram scale stand steady and a bowl on it, I used blue-tack, if you know what that is? A kind of adhesive pulp that easily come off afterwards A tip for you 🥰

Hello! I have a lovebird and I wouldn’t say he is scared of us but he is scared of hands do you have tips maybe? Also this problem doesn’t happen when he doesn’t have his cage in the room he follows us everywhere if he doesn’t have his cage but he can also just fly up and hide sometimeThank you!

My issue that we don't have these kind of scale in the UK. I tried different home scales and my ringneck is just too afraid to step on it. Once we made a little t-stand which we put on the scale, but still no success. He is good with target training, but he doesn't want to step up on the scale. Even with his favourite treat. I don't have any issue with my baby Amazon thought.

I have a 34-day-old budgie. His tail feathers started to fall off, and he also lost the first two feathers of his right and left wings. I found stiff black dots at the beginning of the feathers. Is there a solution or treatment for this problem? Please help me, please 😢😢
@stuckinthelazycorneragain4016 Жыл бұрын
Could it be going through a molt? That's a very young budgie so it's possible it's still molting it's feathers. Do you see any new feathers growing? Sharp white pins.

If blueberry’s cage is round that is not good.
@StarryStarryNocturne Жыл бұрын
They said in the video that they use that cage for limited things. They have also stated many times before that Blueberry is their only free roam birdie at their home, meaning she is allowed to be free around the house except when she sleeps.
