Thanks Mat - I am going to try it out and apply all the advice shared.

Great welding job but you should use a torch after welding to anneal the area by heating red hot and cooling slowly as the welds have a tendency to get brittle.

you would lose the heat treat on the blade then. id leave it. im assuming hes using a mild steel filler wire as well. although i guess the heat treat in that area is already lost. unless its a high hardenability steel. probably worth just leaving it alone. you definitely couldnt get away with this on a metal cutting blade like i use.

Hey great advice! I may try that next time. Thanks!

You should anneal. It will last longer. If you don’t it will have a tendency to break at the weld. I have a band saw welder and the welds are very brittle before annealing. The metal is softer after but you’re not as concerned about that one spot having the correct temper as you are about it’s flexibility.

a good smack on the weld with a hammer while it's on solid surface and still hot will toughen it up also, called dollying

Once upon a time bandsaws had a welding fixture on them.

I've only seen them on industrial metal cutting bandsaws like the DoAll. I think it's still included or offered as an option.
