Is it also bare metal in the inner side lip of vehicle for the weld prepping?
@KiDTRiiPz4 жыл бұрын
Interesting how you did the sail panel joint. Never seen it be done that way, where it's basically lapped over the existing panel instead of butt welded. Is this a recommended procedure??

What are you using to help hold the weight of the welder? What cable system?

What’s the adhesive bond used for this application?
@NoPro19625 жыл бұрын
Do you have to have bare metal on all surfaces being sandwiched together or just the outer surfaces with the two outer contact points wen (Not) using panel bond.

does the sealer and adhesive cover all the metal that was grinded ?
@Collisionhub8 жыл бұрын
yes, with a brush or a spreader you want to make sure all of exposed metal flanges are covered for adhesion and corrosion protection purposes
@FlaMark1005 жыл бұрын
@@Collisionhub that is one of the most important steps and you didn't show that. "Tin" all bare metal with the structural and seam sealer on the car and replacement panel.

A good quality video! I would just like to make a couple of things that haven't been made apparent here and that is that you are in fact correct in doing a weld tag to check if your weld is correct but you didnt state about the size of the weld nugget. The weld nugget achieved should match the weld nugget size already on the car. This is one of the reasons you do the test. Do not just set your welder for thickness this is wrong. Use the settings as a guide only. Set the weld to give you the same size weld as originally on the car. THIS IS IMPORTANT. especially European cars as they have different and larger sized spot welds. Also do not used domed electrodes. These indent into the steel too much and create a weakness around the HAZ (heat affected zone). Finally dont grind all the e coating off. Only grind where the welds are going to be.

yeah it seemed like he was just putting the welds were ever he felt like it. And also with the glue the machine is probably going to think the metal is thicker then it really is . And might cause the weld to be to hot.

We are gonna assume that the rear door and trunk lid were installed, and gaps were checked, before welding up that quarter panel? Lol Always good for people to know that you should brush the seam sealer and adhesive over any exposed metal.
@Collisionhub5 жыл бұрын
Since it's a body in white training car then that would not be a good assumption.

I see a lot of aggressive over grinding on the outer jam hem flange big no in toyota and lots of other brands keep!!! the ecoat on the panel on the outside only bare where you have to established a weld .for weld count how many actually go in the area that are puting on the car you're just welding them in designated locations ? over lap might as well Just made a backer. If you guys are posting up class on how to properly fix them i see a whole lot wrong from what I learned in icar and toyota certification what im geting it is technicians see these videos and then go off of them and think it's the proper way to do things when actually it's not just my opinion two test sheets could have save that demo car for proper procedures and a better view on things in the future

I cant believe there not welding the sill panel this is bullshit .The car gets stuffed in the rear sorry I want my car welded.If it comes lose its as sharp as a" steak knife "interesting. Its almost 2015 they need manufacture a car were the quarter can go over the roof not under.

I'd like to see destructive testing of that structural adhesive joint.
