Listen to Me ...I'm telling you this only because I've been doing this work since the 70s there is absolutely no reason why you needed to cut so high up on the quarter panel you should stay well away from that stamped curved panel and come down closer to the actual damage ...and don't be afraid to use vise grips or Clecos if you have them or is a hydraulic panel flanger that allows you the option of plug welding every one or every other one making it almost impossible to warp or overheat the patch panel the inner well you could have easily fabricated up making it near impossible for some putts to pick your work apart....

Customer didn't want to spend the extra money to have the inner fixed

One person dislike free knowledgeable content!?!? Wtf just because it’s beyond their comprehension let alone skill level. Stick to waisting your money buying new. The channel is for restoration. Keep up the good content it’s a lifeline for beginners.

what have i missed? you say put tape on inside of the line but then cut on the outside of the line? then you pit the flange on but how does it reach the end of the flange when you still cut on the line??

Should you have taken the foam out so it would'nt hold water again and rust out again?

I would of just replaced the metal in the arch itself instead of replacing metal in the whole fender wall as well.
@Colin-Fenix2 жыл бұрын
I agree, he cut out a lot of good steel for no apparent reason. Then he doesn’t bother to fix the inner arch. Now there’s a giant hole for crap to collect and rust out the new panel. Doesn’t his thumbnail say “Do it right”. Very unprofessional video.

@@bpbrestorations2093 - ok, great you were just following customer orders… did you state this at the beginning of the video? “This is a crap repair, but I’m showing you so you know how NOT to fix rust the right way”! 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
@bpbrestorations20932 жыл бұрын
@@Colin-Fenix definitely was stated, and in comments many times over. The repair was not done to your liking, that's fine. Make a new video and show us how. However, many years later this truck still looks just as good as the day it left. Gained a repeat customer. And I'm making them stacks of cash. 💸 💰 🤑 💲

Will it rust behind the flange? I've butt welded before, but it really easy to warp the metal. This looks like a strong repair.
@bpbrestorations20933 жыл бұрын
As long as you use weld thru primer before welding it, and finish the back side with undercoating or a coating of your choice as long as it's not left bare. Yes butt welding is very much harder, but in same case things must be butt welded, however this is not one. As long as you burn it in good and have good welds you will have 0 issues.

Yes it's called por15. Eastwood has some called rust encapsulater, and have used several others. Por15 seems to be where it's at as far as longevity.

Can show how to make it with raw material.
@bpbrestorations209311 ай бұрын
It would cost us more in time and material than it takes to do it with a stamped replacement. We will certainly keep it in mind on the next one we have come in and replacement panels are not available.
@brianbrennan94764 жыл бұрын
Probably a dumb question. But whats the reason for using a flange gun?
@bpbrestorations20934 жыл бұрын
When the panels are put back together after you flange it there is a tiny groove between new metal and old that is sunken in and that makes for a really nice spot to hide your welds and get it welded more solid and avoid having to "butt" weld which is generally a crappier weld.
@brianbrennan94764 жыл бұрын

The repair is nearly 5 years old now and still looks amazing and do work for this fella regularly. The correct way to do this is a full bed side and inner fender but not everyone has $4-$6k for that job. So we improvise, save money and our customers love us. Thanks tho

I would have refused this job unless customer had agreed to have the inner wheel well repaired . It does not make sense to cover over rust with a new panel. Also you unnecessarily cut out way to much of the original metal.
