My mother taught me very well how to cook when I was just a young lad; skills I still use to this day some 50 odd years later. Actually I do enjoy cooking equally along with fishing, welding, gardening, mechanicing, carpentry, and all the other so called manly skills. Nothing wrong with being a good well rounded individual in life skills regardless of gender.

When you said to your Daughter "Can't is not in our vocabulary", it brought back a memory of my Dad. He had an auto repair shop for 38 years. Back in 1973 I was 17 and working on my 1st car, a 1967 GTO convertible. I was under the hood and struggling for probably 1/2 an hour on starting a bolt in a tight spot. He came by and asked what was up. I said "I've been trying and can't get this bolt started". He immediately said "Don't ever saw you can't". He then gave me some verbal tips on how to do it, without ever putting his hands on it, then walked away. With his wisdom, I accomplished in 1 minute what I struggled with for half an hour. A life lesson from my Dad that got me through many seemingly impossible situations in my life. Thanks and God Bless you Dad.

It is so nice to find a company that will help out their customers . I have most recently had that experience with Scorpion riding gear . I broke the release on my modular helmet about three months after buying it . I contacted them to see if I could buy the part from them , no . They sent me a whole new chin bar assembly . Then I did it agin about 3 years later and repeated trying to buy the part , they sent me another new chin bar assembly . No charge . As a former firefighter I love your QTAC fire unit . Quick attack while fire is small is key to beating a fire .

Good to hear that someone who knew about plastic welding got through. The process hopefully will gain some more notoriety due to this. I've saved a few pricey items through use of plastic welding. I've not used that particular device, but I've done the same process using a dial temp heat gun and hand feeding of plastic rod(kinda like tig welding). Nice to see that it worked. I recommended spin welding because I've thought that bead welding for plastic to be unfit for pressure applications. Since QTAC recommended bead welding I'm going to have to do some more research into the differences between the weld types again.

I broke a Suzuki rm fender one time. My dad shaved off a strip of the fender and proceeded to weld that thing as smooth as can be .....I was amazed. He just did it with a soldering iron. The principle of melt, meld, fill, works on plastic just the way it does on metal....just alot cooler.

Wish I had a father like you growing up. When I was younger fixing things/working on things was a waste of time and stupid to my dad... It was always "join the military" "your just going to break things" "take it to a professional" "you can't learn by yourself, you have to go to school for it" even for a lot of simple things and he's still like that to this day... Now that I'm a father I can actually teach my kids how to do everything I know and we can learn things together like a father should do. (Sorry, just venting I guess)

I bought a some basic plastic welding nozzles from aliexpress a few months ago. They fit onto my SMD soldering rework station and that does a pretty bang-up job (albeit probably a bit slower than the professional tool used here). Cheap as chips and enable all manner of repairs and construction methods that weren't possible before. --- If you already have a hot-air rework station I can recommend getting a set of welding nozzles for like £10. Always handy to have.
@ckstaff
@ckstaff 2 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend that type of welding or tools (if you are talking a solder type welder) to repair a water tank. It really needs to be done with the type of hot air welder that he is using. The process is fusing the material together not melting it together. Melting is not welding or fusing.

Thanks for the "Not a Tutorial". I've been wondering how this was done! While traveling we borrowed a kayak a while back that had a crack in it and it got us talking about plastic welding. In the mid 80's when I was a teenager i used to take the plastic that was left over from model car kits and make other stuff. I made a biplane and used a wood burner to weld the pieces together. Then I stretched coth over the wings and body. I put monster truck wheels on it and an electric motor to turn the propeller! It ran off a 9 volt battery, it used to jump around when the propeller was turning. It looked like the biplane that was in the old loony tunes cartoons! Didn't know until recently that people actually do do plastic welding. I guess I was a bit ahead of the times.

Plastic welding is easier than people think, the hardest thing is to figure out what type of plastic you have. So you can make sure you use the correct plastic rod. I was the first person in my town to do it. Then the 2 part epoxies took over and then people wanted to have me fix it when the epoxy failed. I just stoped doing it other than my own need.
