Great introduction, and glad to know I can aspire to roll with the cool dudes even without a Swiss Biax !

Nice Video and amazed at the lack of Armchair Experts telling you what you got wrong. 🙃 I have actually been looking at a Durabar Blank option for a Dovetail Straight edge as importing a Raw Casting or Used one into Australia is crazy $$.
@VanoverMachineAndRepair3 ай бұрын
Yeah true durabar is a good choice for that

I have had tremendous success using a Dremel with a cone-shaped grinding stone. It's super accurate and super fast. By the way, contact surface area has no effect on friction.

I'm still trying to learn to scrap I seem to do better with the hand scraper then the Biax . Its a learning curve for sure . I will watch your videos and maybe pick up on something . I have a very old Milkaukee 3 b plain milling machine I wonder if Ron would know about it . I thing it is from the 20 -30 years . And I also have a vertical head for the mill

I'm looking forward to this one. There is, from the start, a continuity issue, the haircut.😊

For the book mentioned in the beginning of the video you can get it for a bit of money at the publisher Machine Tool Publications. Copies on Ebay and Amazon look to be priced way above retail.

One tip.i used to use the concrete pigment,it's too abrasive,I wore some low spots on my surface plate.i now use fine carbon black pigment or some brands of prussian blue

That’s a great tip. Thanks

Durbar??? What kind of material is this for creating your own custom measuring rulers and prisms?
@VanoverMachineAndRepair6 ай бұрын
Extruded cast iron. Durabar
@madmodder1236 ай бұрын
As far as I know you should be using Ammonia-Free Windex on your surface plate

less radius would dig deeper no?
@VanoverMachineAndRepair6 ай бұрын
Did I say it backwards. Maybe I did a bigger radius is used for roughing smaller for finishing. It’s easier to dig in w smaller but also more precise so usually used for finishing on lighter cuts
@procyonia36546 ай бұрын
Not really but you do use wider for clearing area and rough, smaller will dig in more which is why you use it if you are pounding flaking in Edit: the larger radius puts the force across a larger cross section which makes it more want to skate across the surface. Where as with the small radius you have you have smaller contact point so it digs in better Think like a knife, if you have a big chonking thick cutting edge and you compare it to a fillet knife Which digs deeper?
