You are right, that a small bike can wheelie. Back in 2003, I learned to clutch wheelie in first gear at 8000 RPMs on my small Ninja 250R to pop the front tire up at a 45 degree angle for about 10 feet. Heart racing as the jolt up was shocking each time. The landings were tough on the front tire/fork too. Not as much fun like I was expecting even with practice. I think it was stretching the heck out of my chain too, needing replacement. My interest in wheelies faded soon after, with discipline early to no longer feel the need to wheelie, even if requested by others which is often when on a sport bike. "Do a wheelie." Best to ignore them is how I feel. They won't pay for it if something goes wrong. My current Ninja 650 will sometimes slightly power wheelie from a quick take off a few inches, but that's enough for me these days. Interesting video and cool bike R7, thanks.

He's right. The three step process becomes natural instinct after awhile. Just always respect the bike's power and modulate.

Great video! You forgot to mention throttle control. You dont want to bring it up and bimp the throttle like a dirtbike. Thats gonna help on looping the bike. You want to bring it up and then maintain the throttle smoothly. It in that you will find that sweet spot, The balance point. I use 2nd gear and then grab third. I can wheelie my Busa for a mile or more. I end up with speeds over 120mph. Feels fantastic ! Enjoy

Once you can chase em, instead of being tempted to chase as long as possible, now youre in the phase where u want to intentionally bring them down using rear brake (this phase is longer and harder than the wheelie chase phase). I know, no cool points but its what you need to level up to ACTUAL wheelies. This Builds the muscle memory in your right foot to be able to actually use the rear brake and stay relaxed when your bring it up past BP and to understand how much pressure does what. Then combine muscle memory of the throttle with your new foot brake abilities to bring it up past BP so you can slow them down. BTW "covering the brake" is BS if you havent put in the work to use it because when you have that "oh shit" moment, and you will, Your fight or flight will kick in and your first instict will be to jump off the bike or hang on and pray the engine brake brings it down. EDIT: it's possible to bypass the rear brake learning phase if you have good throttle control and ride them out pretty decent at BP but you will be hard capped and gain false confidence and the second you give it a squirt too much gas at BP its loop city so remember to practice putting them down early on for much successs 👍

One important thing to note, is if you over grip that throttle with your wrist, meaning, if you place your wrist over the throttle with your grip angling down, and then when you try to "pop" or "pull" the bike up, your weight shifts back...guess what else will happen? Your wrist will then pull back in normal position with your grip increasing the throttle more.... You see this in nearly every amateur video where the rider gives it throttle and isn't ready for the sudden jerk while giving it more throttle because they've got flung back while still holding onto the grip on the throttle.

Get a dirt cheap bike to learn how to wheelie cause you WILL drop it and be sure you're good to fukkin up a bike cause the likelihood is 80% or better that you can cause damage that would be expensive to fix. Try a Grom or a Dirt Bike and wheelie practice on SOFT surfaces so when you drop it you won't damage it too bad hopefully. When You wanna step up to clutch up's be good at doing power up's first.

I understand this is meant to teach new riders some fun wheelie basics. But you completely missed a few major steps in learning to actually wheelie and people will get hurt if they just follow this. 1. Don't chase the wheelie when your learning. Clutch up and hit that rear brake to come back down. Slowly get higher using that until you can hit balance point. Then go for distance. Otherwise you're going to get confident chasing. Hit bp showing off your lack of skills to friends that dont know better and take a trip to loop city. 2 chopping that throttle when you pull up your wheelie. Don't. You want to be smooth and consistent. Chopping throttle can easily lead to a whisky throttle situation and thats not ideal.

My tip is DON’T do wheelies on road bikes. You can damage your fork seals. You can crash your bike. You can injure yourself or others. You can make yourself look stupid as you pick up the bits of bike scattered over the road. Here in the U.K. you can also lose your license for dangerous driving. Just ride safely and if you can’t, just don’t ride.
