But after watching this video and 1 year of practicing and experimenting on my own without any other video I learned not only how hit them but how to do runs, staccato, and also phrase. I’ve been trying this for almost a year and I still can’t reliably stay up there or move around when I hit it. I can’t tell what I’m doing wrong but I know one thing for sure is that I struggle to even sing f5 upwards without straining, and especially struggle to do it with vocal fry. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Another thing I wondered was whether I was doing the vocal fry correctly, because he said that some people just sit on top of it without supporting it, which I didn’t really understand :(
@LuisMiguelchart2 жыл бұрын
@@0mnom all I know is that I had to practice that almost everyday for months. It was the first thing I did waking up (which btw I tend to the highest when I do it right after waking up than I normally would) and I did every chance I had even when I was at work 😂 Plus, being a huge Mariah Carey fan also helps since I see what she does and learn how not only does she use them but when and why. Her musicianship on the whistle register is otherworldly and she’s a perfect artist to emulate. Being very persistent can go a long way. I hope you’re able to do it soon, don’t give up on it.

Just my experience, but you might be using too much air and/or having tension/habits of pushing the larynx up. Practice straw phonation and give the tounge and larynxs some massage and streches for a few days
@samueljohnson95663 жыл бұрын
My advice is to not focus on your throat. Rather than even paying attention to your vocal chords being in your throat, imagine they're in your chest. Send any tension you feel you need there and use your proper support muscles to push through that tension and out your nose. Sing with your nose and upper two thirds of your face. That sounds REALLY fucking weird ik but it works for me EDIT: I meant that your vocal chords are in your neck/larynx area, not throat exactly. My bad

4 months in, and I accidentally hit an A7 (can't hit it anymore LMAOO) My comfort range is around C#6-G6, I usually add more pressure anywhere higher than that, but not too much that it hurts, and it's hard for me to hit anything lower than that, so my whistle range is A5-A7 I'm not sure if anyone else experiences this, but I have off days, sometimes my whistles are harder than usual days, and sometimes it's easier, but it's pretty easy to hit, it does need some light pressure but it's not really anything painful unless it's like a B6 and higher, and tbh I don't really know if my voice will improve beyond this point, but I'm just happy that I can hit them at least

2:44 - 2:53 His whistles have a very beautiful sound and that what you do seems more sound like a Head Voice/Flageolet. But I think it's much more about the way the register is positioned. For example, I will cite my case, as I also have whistles. Depending on how I make the high note in the 6th octave,the sound may vary. So,if I put in too much air,the note will sound a Whistle. Now if I apply a lot of force, it sounds like a Head Voice/Flageolet That's why there's a lot of confusion between the registers.There are people who still don't know how to differentiate one from the other. And they still confuse it with Falsetto.
@seanmurrayvocals7 ай бұрын
Falsetto is “false cord closure” meaning the cords aren’t fully closing to oscillate resulting in a more breathier tone!

it is. so many people learned how to whistle and able to do it. as i understand it no classification of singers are barred from whistle register because we all have it. It's just not in demand like the expert singers who can bend it to their will. it's similar to how we scream and that happened uncontrollably. These singers however can 'scream' but gently, control it and enunciate with it. It's truly a specific set of skills.
