Thank you for your help and for being so transparent. Your desire to want to help others get to the point you are at, which is not the "norm" in the soaping community.

You make an exceptionally salient point between 8:00 and 8:24. You're spending your time and effort to make a product and by signing up a retail location you expect your customers to go there to purchase your product. They have the choice of buying from you online, which maybe doesn't have your full line of products because you as a wholesaler also want to drive people to the brick and mortar stores. They buy from those stores, it supports those businesses which in turn helps them grow. They keep stocking your product and everyone wins. When your prospective customer goes to that retail outlet and for whatever reason that location does not have your product, what are they going to do? They've gotten out of the house, driven to a that store, and are in the mood to buy. They are looking for something that they cannot live without, something new and exciting to try. There's also a very good chance they've never seen your competitors that are also on display, or indirect competitors for tangential products. The probability they go home empty handed if you're not on the shelves? I'd say pretty low. They're going to take home something else and there goes either a one time sale or the chance to grab that person as a long term customer much like your forager contact for Whole Foods. Long story long, if you're not there on the shelf, someone else is. If your retail location isn't stocking your product, you're directly advertising their business and your competitor's product for free.

Joanna, thank you for such a great breakdown. I kind of understood it before, but the whiteboard was super helpful. I hate math, but it needs to be done and this equation made sense to me. I am so appreciative of all that you have been doing for this industry, your wealth of knowledge is invaluable! Thank you so much! I was at a craft fair this weekend and had a couple of folks ask if I did wholesale and I told them I was considering it. One gal wanted my soaps in her store, it was such a huge compliment. I understand the money part but I have to get my head wrapped around creating a line sheet, etc. Thank you so, so much for your contribution, it is beyond helpful. Looking forward to YOUR continued success too! :-)

Hi Joanna! I love watching your video. Do you include shipping fees when calculating the soap price or do you charge your wholesale costumers shipping separately when they order ?

Thank you for all the information. Questions if the retailers are going to be selling your bars at $7 and your wholesale price is $3.50 where is your profit?? You would be selling your bars almost at cost??

Ty for info. I’m just learning this as a hobby but in my group they say I can’t claim soap does anything but clean skin. So how do you market a “detoxifying soap” ? Are we allowed in soap business(not cosmetic business) say it detoxifies skin? Ty in advance. And happy 4 you that your company is doing so well 😃
@TheSoapGal Жыл бұрын
Great question! As long as you're not claiming that the soap will detoxify you you can say that it's a "detoxifying soap" due to the natural charcoal in it. You can make soft claims like it helps detoxify or is naturally detoxifying but would avoid hard claims like "it detoxifies the skin"

Joanna, thank you so much for these business videos...they are really helpful. My question to you: do you currently only wholesale that one bar, or several bars? Did you start wholesaling with just one bar or several? I know that you need to keep it a manageable number and I was thinking about starting with four or five bars. What are your thoughts? Jan
@TheSoapGal6 жыл бұрын
I have 19 sku in 5 collections 4 year round and 1 seasonal and 5 soap flights (samples of my collections) , but each collection has three bars and a soap flight. You can see my line sheet on the Soap Gal Facebook page and under menu in the sidebar is more wholesale bliss! Hope this answered your question. Start with one collections have it be consistent and you will be golden!
