Best not to bid in big chunks. That might be good for the seller but not for the buyer. Better to bid in very tiny increments until everyone else gets bored or needs to go home and make tea.

I've heard some people with experience in the field give the opposite advice. It might sound good on paper, because if you are bidding in big chunks you may go way over everybody elses limit and they would have lost interest at a much lower price if you had bid in little increments. But on the other hand bidding in big chunks gives the impression that you are willing to spend a lot of money and that you arent bothered by a few thousand dollars. That might not be true, but giving that impression may make other bidders lose interest, because they think that you are willing to spend much more money than they are, so there is no point for them to even keep bidding against you. Also people may not have a hard limit with the money they are willing to spend. If you bid in tiny increments you can get into a drawn out bidding war that the other person doesnt want to lose, so they go higher than they had initially planned. Lets say someone thinks they should spend no more than 1000 $ on an item before the bidding starts. If they make 20 bids before it reaches 1000$ they will probably keep going even if they hadnt originally planned to, because they are now invested in beating you. If they only made one bid before their limit is reached they are much more likely to let it go.

I didn’t watch the video. But I assume by having more money than the rest of the bidders ought to do the trick.
