One reason why people ask for higher ilvl than the instance is because they are farming or going for a speed clear, rather than trying to help undergeared players or progressing players. If you want to progress content than you are better off joining a guild.

In this case, you should look for a group that has not completed the instance either because you are both on the same page. If I am PUGing a raid that I have on farm mode I am also looking for players that are farming it, not progressing it.

Also gear is the only objective thing they can look at when pugging, for all the players that can play well undergeared there's much more that can't, accepting you into a PuG is about trust that you won't establish with no proof of xp. The alternative to the slow tank is the impatient tank. Waiting to see that everyone is ready is just being considerate. I've been kicked more times then not by the impatient tank. Plus we wipe more because were not ready.

A lot of people think that you should be able to see if the healers is OOM or not, or is even with you or not, as you're fighting. And therefore don't need to spend 5 seconds after each pull just to look at your surroundings.

i played wow on and off for years. during siege of org period of mop if anything has ever made me want to punch people through the internet it was players 100+ ilvls above the dungeon and 1.5 years after launch still pulling one pack at a time or not knowing about pats pulling shit that was skip-able and generally just taking 3 times as long as needed. its been awhile but im pretty sure i was doing 500k dps at that point, thats more than an entire group at the expansions launch, like how hard is it to just go. go. I remember the ridiculous 5.5k GS req from VoA. You could easily have only 4.5k GS (or something in that area) without getting problems. At least as long as people didn't stand in fire AND killed the adds (which didn't happen every time).

Remember When VoA, or Vault of the Ancients, was a 10/25m raid in wintergrasp, and GearScore was a rubbish addon for people who thought higher GS/ilvl automatically equaled skill, and used it to set absurd requirements for raid invites, ensuring that those who actually needed gear weren't invited. Yeah, I've clearly no idea, I OBVIOUSLY didn't play since I don't know that high GS/ilvl = SKILLZ!!!!!!!!!111111oneoneoneone Low GS/ilvl doesn't automatically mean bad dps/healing/tank. I've seen HC-raid geared people do shit dps, and I've seen poorly geared people do amazing dps.

i know exactly what you mean :p can't recall how many of those GS scrubs i wrecked on the DPS charts in my semi dungeon sets on my alts after they gave me a hard time and trying to votekick me for having n00b gearscore lol. VoA can easily be done with 4.5k GS indeed if you know what you are doing. what's the point of doing it in full ICC gear anyways?? might as well do ICC hc with that level of gear, at least then you do something worth of your time. folks cry they want a challenge? the why do stuff with an overgeared group in the first place?

Mark Drake If you wanted to get into an ICC normal group, you had to basically be HC-geared before they'd let you in. PUGs in WoW are hopeless if you actually need the gear.

+Dan I only played XIV a month when it was XIV and a month when ARR came out. It's essentially made with a very similar mentality to BC/Wrath WoW. So imagine if BC/Wrath never stopped and we just got features and updates with that same mentality. TLDR It's more of an MMO than modern WoW and does WoW better than blizzard.

I tried playing retail again not that long ago and I kind of hated how everything turned out to be, it seemed cool at first since it's new but after a couple days it just loses it interest and becomes boring. Anyway, I like a little bit of challenging games (A decent challenge, not hardcore) which FFXIV seems to nail pretty okay and I love how the community is really friendly, which I wasn't too surprised about since they reward good behavior. All in all, FFXIV is a MMO -- it's just way less toxic than most MMO's out there (Directed at Dan)

I had to watch this video, because Billy and I are in the same boat. Hooked up with a PUG today for Draenor dungeon, Skyreach in normal. I'm a balance druid, Level 100 with item level 657. If ever there was a poster player for the "impatient guy" it was the raid leader. He actually did start without everyone being ready. I noticed the hunter left a few minutes after the leader made a comment about him being out of sight of the boss. Then quickly I saw new players coming in, and I was booted out. I whispered him why did you boot me - "ur incompetent" was the answer and /ignore. I guess he didn't want to hear from me again. And good thing!

I used to tank or heal and I'd find a partner who was pretty skilled to do the other role with me and I'd basically invite junk DPS and actually tell them to try to screw us up. They were rarely successful, and we'd obliterate everything in sight.
