5:55 - I absolutely hate this in low ELO (where I am permanently stuck but whatever) My jungler never understands that I can’t just abandon a giant wave at my tower for a coin flip. If we know for a fact that the enemy jungler is elsewhere, then sure let’s go for a kill (or at the very least get them to burn a summoner spell), but other than that the risks far exceed the potential gains. Experience points are to valuable a resource to just throw away, especially early game

All you can do is ping retreat 5 times in a rhythmic way (I find the rhythm actually gets people to listen to my pings) then stay at wave.

Hello, I don't comment often in these videos but as a Masters-GM player on 5 roles (not that it matters, I do not mean to use elo to appeal to authority) I just really felt like it was kind of hard to watch this, not just because it was poorly executed many times, which can happen and I am sure I have games much worse than these by far, but because this gameplay is being showcased as if it was what everyone should strive for. I will do a small breakdown of why I felt like it really was necessary to really go out of my way and express that I feel like this one video just doesn't feel right to me. - Firstly, I will not really look into the mechanical misplays, McBaze did say he is not too experienced in the matchup and I totally understand that and it is fine and I do not mind that he accidentally hit the minion and then ran away (I think he could have won anyways and if he was scared of Mord Q, just flash behind him when he uses it but fine), since the point of this video is to learn about *wave management*. But my first issue is instead at 2:58, I think all the explaining you guys gave of the lane before was definitely spot on and yes that was the idea behind the lane, but right as McBaze says he is "basically only last hitting" he goes right into AAing THREE TIMES, when he should have literally only last-hit, just like he said he would do in the review. The consequences are basically immediate, the third wave's casters would have been under mordekaisers turret if he hadn't basically cleared the entire wave, he could have either used that wave to set up a gank, or simply hit lvl 3 and force Jax's TP. - Then at 3:23, you have the right idea, now just focus solely on crashing the wave, and he should have. I think it is fine to trade a bit like Jax did since any HP trade is positive (Jax recalls, Morde stays with his lower HP, wave bounces, Morde needs to TP or he dies). BUT JAX GOES AHEAD AND INSTEAD OF CRASHING THE WAVE, HE CONTINUES TRADING. And morde CLEARLY had the opportunity to hold 4 minions right outside of turret range, and like you explain, screw you over. - At 5:15 there's a concept you constantly talk about at skill capped and its to stay away from your own wave because then the enemy can use their AOE abilities to hit both you and the wave. And that leads to Jax being completely unable to thin the wave without risking way too much poke, and then has to try to freeze a wave with 6 casters and a cannon, where even if you have your long sword advantage, you have no chance of actually winning any trades. Let's ignore the fact that what I said happens right away and you say "yeah it's fine I'm not in a terrible spot or anything". - Then at 5:50, I get the concept but honestly I think McBaze just wasn't looking at Skarner in the map and had no clue he was about to get ganked, judging by camera control, and yes, you could have killed Morde, you can definitely tank those minions a bit with your E while walking up to Mordekaiser, it would be fine, you can jump on him and ensure the kill because he reacted late to Skarner and then you might even be able to keep the freeze. But I guess this point doesn't matter because the video is about wave control. ALSO KAYN WAS BOT 5 SECONDS AGO, so the concept wouldn't apply anyways you CANNOT get counterganked what? - The recall bait at 7:30 was good and what happened is fine, but even then at 8:00, I am pretty sure you just weren't paying attention to the XP because even despite your item advantage, I am almost sure if Morde focused on getting 6 when he saw you TP he 100% solo killed you. Also if he uses ult as you E I think he can basically negate your stun since you will not be able to attack him during that small window his ult lasts? I might be wrong about this, the point is, it was very close despite him waiting 5 seconds to ult, he could have won. Anyways, as a conclusion, this game was a mess, I love your videos and I learn a lot but this one felt a bit puzzling since I just didn't feel like most of what happened was even low diamond level. I agree with many of the concepts but in practice they were applied just very poorly and I saw way too many opportunities for Mordekaiser to literally just win the lane on the spot with some of the mistakes that were made. If you or anyone has anything to add/refute I look forward to it, I hope I didn't sound too condescending or heated because I love the content, and it's free too, so I respect that, but I'm sure everyone here is just as passionate about this game as me.

@@lefroste6370 I agree it would be okay to make some mistakes since they are just trying to teach fundamentals to people who are mostly plat or lower, but the issue comes from the fact that they aren't just making mechanical, matchup or map awareness mistake, those I wouldn't be bothered that much by, but it's a problem when the title says "How to Win Lane with *Wave Control*" and the example game they use has some very counterintuitive wave control blunders that might just straight up contradict what they just said or if they say something that's just straight up wrong. Then there's an issue and then it kinda does feel weird and bothers one a bit. Again, no hate obviously, I'll still watch videos and I still get a lot from some of them

When is McBaze going to release a video that shows us the real challenger secrets to winning toplane: Not dying after going for an all-in and mechanically misplaying (1:46) and winning coin-flip all-ins at 11 HP (0:12). Not hating on McBaze, I just feel like I lose lane if I was in this game 100% of the time because factors like that even if I was making all the same decisions he was. Meanwhile I'm getting told that mechanics don't matter as much as fundamentals. Would Jax dying to either of those not be considered losing the lane on mechanics?

1: That was not a coin flip all in. Jax knew they were close to leveling up. Was it close? Yes. But part of being good is knowing your odds of that coming out in your favor. 2: The misclick led to him backing off ONLY because he was unfamiliar with the match up and, in his own words "...which made me feel like I would lose the fight..." He suspected he would lose it and part of being good at the game's fundamentals is knowing when to cut your losses and play it safe. In short; McBaze knew the odds were in his favor that he would win the close all-in. The misclick misplay didn't matter because he knew when to cut his losses and how to recover into continuing to create an advantage.

It is because jax knows morde has no ult and the wave is slow pushing into morde, morde does what every low elo player does, goes far up(into the lane) into the slowpushing wave that will eventually come to his tower to farm it up, jax sees him miss his Q and thinks that morde no ult+ he relies on dodging mordekaiser Qs and E. Also jax still has his sheen powerspike. Despite that he fails to outplay morde mechanically because he messes up the sidestep doesn't turn ult soon enough cause he thinks morde will back off cause he has no ult ,but no, thats when it becomes all in. But still should be a win cause he has his ult and morde doesnt, morde isnt allowed to walk so far forward into you having ult down. And jax should win by just autoatacking morde. 2: Despite saying he doesnt know the matchup, he has an idea of the cooldowns of the champion so he thinks:"if morde hits me with another Q ill die", he knows that mordekaiser knows that he will win an all in so as you see morde was starting to path directly to enemy tower to cut jax off retreating. So jax instead of that keeps walking forward and down a bit into river, minions for morde are coming up and might creep block him, but morde flashes in with the Q and if he didnt cancel the auto jax would be dead. And yes despite what these people say mechanics play a huge part in this games, like you need to be atleast decent. Cause you probably make a lot of mistakes, like you surely wouldnt even try to sidestep mordekaiser Q. Both things take part in the game, but you cant always rely on mechanics and outplaying your opponent, that isnt consistent enough. Thats why atleast to gold, you can climb pretty easy just knowing the fundamentals of "strategy" In this game. And beyond that lies games games and more games to reach a better rank.

Well lets be real, you probably just loose lane because you never make the same decisions.. When you loose a close fight its not bc you are not mechanically good, it's probably bc fighting was the wrong decision from the start, and that decision was dictated by other wrong decisions.. In this video i REALLY could relate to the mordekaiser.. I felt like i always make the same errors, and i could almost hear him thinking "damn jax can just all in me like that? Ok". He probably was thinking he'd win the matchup since lvl 1 he was able to beat him because he didn't realize thst jax missplayed... So yeah low elo players think of course they are doing the right things... But they really aren't, so just try to learn from this videos, because " Get gud" isn't really a real tip on how to improve, all thought you definetly can and should get good mechanically. Peace!

Btw as a mord with 200k and a diamond player jax loses level one due to his passive. You can get two Qs off easily during a all in lvl 1. I never lose a lvl 1 against Jax. That one missed auto wouldn't of made a difference look at the HP difference do you think that a single auto would of made up the difference?

would you like to 1v1? I have played jax for 10 years. I am currently grandmasters. Jax wins level 1 if morde steps into auto attack range of him at any point at level 1. Morde loses this matchup at every point. Its extremely Jax favored. The problem wasn't him missing the auto attack, agreed. It was his shit itemization going corrupting potion instead of dorans blade. an additional 50 damage, 2% omnivamp, and 80 hp would be far more impactful than the corrupting potion he took. He's clearly not a top lane main, so I assume this was his first game or so on Jax.

Even minion rule is if there are even minions near your tower, it will push the other way eventually bcs your next wave arrives sooner. If you leave the lane at this stage, you will lose a lot of farm from your minions killing your enemy minions

Freezing is when there are 2-4 more enemy minions over yours. Naturally they will overpower your minions and kill them faster. If your opponent leaves lane while you freeze the wave near your tower, they will lose gold and XP.

Freeze - you keep 4 enemy minions near your tower. Those minions meet your minions. Your job is to only last hit for a bit while the enemy minions kill yours. This denies the enemy their last hits. the enemy minion wave will slowly kill yours. IF you hit the enemy wave too much your wave will become larger than the enemy wave and will start to slow push towards the enemy, this will build you a large minion wave. As a rule, to do a freeze, try keep the enemy wave 4 caster minions larger than your wave. If you dont Maintain the freeze by keeping that 4 enemy minion advantage, your wave will just die and the enemy wave will crash into your tower The even minion rule- this rule determines the direction the wave will push. generally if the enemy wave is larger it will push to you and vice versa. This rule is a method to determine the direction the wave will end up pushing If the minion waves are equal size. If the waves are equal and on your side of the lane, the wave will push towards the enemies if not interacted with. This is because your wave will reinforce the wave currently in combat, letting your minions do damage to the enemy minions earlier, causing the enemy wave to die faster, so your wave is larger and it pushes away from you. If the minions meet in the middle, there's no way of determining the direction of the push. Obviously the reverse applies where if the wave is even in size and meets on the enemies side it will push to you naturally regardless of what the enemy laner does. There is one exception to this rule dependant on minion buffs. If one team is behind on levels the enemy minions become empowered another buff exists for enemy minions if you lose your tower. This only applies in the mid game but this can determine which wave will overwhelm which wave more in the event they meet in the centre. So if your tier 1 tower has fallen and the waves meet in the middle of top the wave will push to you.

The Even Minion Rule states that whenever there is an even creep wave(minion wave) whichever side of the map it is on will push to the opposing side. So if the wave of minion are even in numbers (3 casters 3 melees on both sides and around same healths for instance) the area they are fighting in will determine where the waves will naturaly push (toward your tower or the enemy tower). As for freezing in simple term it is just "blocking the wave" in a specific area the generally around your safe zone (which is a danger zone for your opponent where they can be ganked more easily bt your teammate jungler)

I think more clarity is needed. You say "Because of the even minion rule, when the waves are even, it will push the opposite way." For whose side? In the case mentioned, the minions are even in number but your minions have lower hp so that means red minions should win then die to tower. Or, because of proximity to tower, the reds should melee should die.

Think about it. When the next wave arrives, even if his minions are lower hp, his wave will arrive first since its closer. Meaning his wave WILL ALWAYS start DPS-ing the enemy wave first. So basically, a 5-5 minion fight will become a 5-12/11 minion fight before becoming a 10-11 minion fight since the 12 minions will probably be able to kill one or two minions before the opposing wave arrives. TLDR. Minions arrive first and start getting damage first leading to a push.

The problem here is that Mord has no way to proc his passive until after jax e is down because he only has his q and e to stack and proc his passive but he still needs a 3rd stack. By the time jax e finishes he would already be chunked too low and jax with a free stun can walk out and wait on cds to repeat the entire process again

Gold 2 at the end of S11 (that was his peak AFAIK), silver 2 in S10. You can check his name - this game is still in his match history (around 4th December - NA server). Edit: highest rank in morde's team was karma (g1), rest was around g2-3. Game ended with a lose for jax.

@@Oriol_jesusdnazarekt Except in many cases matchup plays major role in how you play the lane. Here he plays matchup that gives him a shot at doing anything. Now let's change things a bit and do the same against something like darius while playing nasus. I can assure you, no matter what he won't be able to use any of these concepts since he isn't in control of the lane; it's up to Darius to do whatever he wants up to lvl 6 (assuming no jungler interference). Same goes for botlane - pick immobile champions like varus and lulu into heavy poke support(zyra, xerath) + bursty adc (tristana, samira). Wave control is not really a thing you can do there if both parties play it correctly.

@@qk2856 Concept don't always translate well into gameplay. With Mordekaiser for instance, you can outrange and juke all of Aatrox' abilities and he can't farm. Only thing he can do is avoid and wait till he can pick off some minions. How about Teemo who will just spit at you. Do you take free hits from him while risking some minion farm? Jax is OP, he can kill anyone almost at lvl 2 without items, so he can jump on Teemo and done. But like Nasus... kited and poked to death. even with his slow. Also champs with mana vs champs with no mana are at a disadvantage. They will never stop using abilities on you while you are oom. I wait for opportunities to present themselves if I am having trouble. Dealing as much damage to tower as I can without dying.

I don't really understand what r u trying to show us in this gameplay. It was totally painful to watch it at so many levels. I understand that winning using the enemy mistakes in low elo is the most reliable way to do it since low elo players make so many mistakes, but he missed up so many times that he didn't look that much different. He was even losing lane until the Plat 4 Morde decided that fighting the Jax that recalled twice is a good idea while Morde hasn't backed even once yet and he had like 60% HP. You can give credit to Mcbaze for creating recall timings, but Morde not backing and using his own TP there was just tragic.

In this instance Morde needs to play patient and go, at a minimum, even with Jax. There comes a point where Jax will ALWAYS win into Morde, but that point is not as soon as people think it is. It is only 'soon' if Jax is allowed free farm without proper harassment and is handed free kills from Morde by playing impatient. Landing Q's while last hitting is a big one and saving the E to push Jax AWAY from Morde when Jax decides to jump on him. Jax tends to approach everything one of three ways: 1: Two autos into minions, Leap Strike, third empowered hit, walk away. 2: Walk up, Counterstrike, autos, stun, more autos, saving Leap Strike when they try to Flash or disengage. 3: Two autos into minions, Leap Strike, third empowered hit, Counterstrike, autos, stun, autos until win. Morde needs to respect Jax Lv.3, use Q to last hit if needed, ideally get damage on Jax at the same time, save E for Leap Strike to push Jax off him, and save W to activate before the stun or the empowered third strike. And he needs to do this until he has at least a completed Mythic where he then needs to ult early to get the bonus stats to fight to the death with Jax. It is a hard match for Morde only because Morde needs to do a lot more right to come out on top than Jax does comparatively; Jax has all the agency. Lucky for us MOST Jax players are over-aggressive and make a TON of mistakes. I know; I main Illaoi. Queen of the Waiting Game, lol.

So as a support player (not ranked right now, but learning a lot from other support streamers/high elo players), Support is actually gapped if you know how to manipulate the wave. Think about it. If you are helping your adc to fast push/freeze/slow push, and the enemy support isn't touching the wave at all in fear of getting flamed by their adc, there will always be a 2 people managing the wave vs 1 person managing the wave. You and your adc will always win vs their adc solo trying to manipulate the wave. I hope this makes sense Edit. I think I heard in another video that support is the 2nd most useful role to know wave state and have wave knowledge because there is a good chance the enemy support will no nothing and it can be exploited easier than other lanes

It isn't outdated as you just TP to the tower and walk up which you should do in all the same instances they describe you TPing to a minion wave instead. If anything you should now be making FEWER mistakes because you'll be able to WALK up to the wave instead of TPing straight into a jungle gank, lol.

AD damage is based off auto attacks. So if they are taking extended trades, Jax can keep autoing and doing more damage. On the other hand, since mord is AP, he does more damage with abilities but since abilities are on a longer cool down usually at lvl 1 like maybe 10-20 seconds, mord usually would just want to poke and wittle down the enemy before all in’ing

Okay so PSA for anyone watching/reading this 2 years after the fact - the lvl 1 analysis is wrong and had nothing to do with the outcome of the lane(Jax should have lost the lvl 1 if Mordekaiser was of equal rank/skill). Mordekaiser refused to recall after getting the crash and then proceeds to take a fight lvl 5/6 down 1050g in items. 1. AD vs AP debate at level 1 is irrelevant as you're are going to compare base stats and passives instead(either look up what opposing champion does during loading screen or click on the champion and compare his AD, AS and HP to yours). Mordekaiser simply has more stats than Jax does so in any prolonged fight, such as the one OP took, Mordekaiser should win by default. 2. Mordekaiser wasted his first Q and canceled 2 auto attacks(compared to Jax auto attacking a minion once). Another thing Mordekaiser could have done is not take minion aggro because they end up doing approximately that auto attack on minion worth of damage to Mordekaiser(and, unless you're Sett, it's not a great idea to tank lvl 1 them in general). 3. Mordekaiser as a champion is bad and if you're going to play an inherently weaker champion you must understand how to gain advantages. Fighting when you're down 1050g worth of items is just not it. You take what opponents give you but, aside from explaining the cannon crash into the turret, this video doesn't do a good job of explaining wave control.

Mechanics are way less important than game knowledge, because even though Jax made a pretty big mechanical misplay and threw a kill, the only reason he was in a position to get said kill is through knowledge. Even more hilarious is that he goes on to use more fundamentals to win the lane later, which is the entire point of the video.

I thought that too, so I googled it and found this on reddit: The Even Minion Rule states that whenever there is an even creep wave whichever side of the map it is on will push to the opposing side. Picture the first creep wave of the game in top lane, right when the minions start fighting draw a line right between each teams melee minions; that is the middle or halfway point of the lane. So any even wave on the purple side of the lane will push toward the blue while any even wave on the blue side of the lane will push toward the purple side. Now you might be wondering how one wave can push against another when they are even waves containing the same number of minions. This is where reinforcements come into play, now we learned earlier that minion waves mirror each other so both reinforcements will be at the same place on the map at the same time. But things have changed we are no longer meeting in the middle of the lane we are now meeting closer to one of the team’s reinforcements. The even minion wave being on one side allows that sides reinforcements to get there first which causes that lane to kill off the current wave while some of that initial force survive to fight the next wave. This leads to an uneven creep wave which will begin to push until stopped by either a champion or a tower.

Well, maybe you should have just stayed to side Laning and using that map pressure to help your botlane get a breather and maybe try and catch. If they send 2 Ur way and u really won your lane, you should win that 2 v1 or stall them long enough for your team (HOPEFULLY, probably not) to get an objective. I think I'm very very stupid and I play this game for more than 10 years now and I will never understand how to control the wave. Like literally, I've reached Plat 1 and I never controlled any wave. Even if I try to do it, I have no idea what I'm doing. I assume I'm doing it correctly and I don't know. In order for me to understand how to do it.. someone must watch my screen and tell me do this because this.. or do that because that. Otherwise, I can simply can't understand wave control from videos. I understand what they say, I just feel like I can't do it in game. It feels so different... Then I get anxious like where will the wave push, should I recall now or later? What should I do.. and in the end I end up playing like a typical Gold player... and hence why I am stuck there now. My mechanics are at least Diamond player.. but I'm terribly hard stuck because of wave control. Also the fact that I'm a little tired by this game but yeah.. I suck at wave control.

hi guys ive learn a lot thank to you, so i want to share an idea i had about the TP changes: it would for sure impact the early game pressure from toplaners, but maybe we could imagine a new meta inspired by supports; the toplaner slow pushed the 2 first waves, then crash on the 3rd, recall, spend gold then from base run straight to either botlane jungle or mid, like a support would, try a move (at this time the ennemy top is either pushing top, or base, he could hard push in response or tp tower to help, if so he loses the TP for toplane control when you still have it up to go back and get the lane management, if he commits on push you had more impact on the map while having the possibility to TP back top to catch the wave, in either case it looks like you get the tempo advantage too) so to be creative toplaners should now play around big crashes to make play and TP back top imo, what you guys think about that?

If you’re referring to level 1 then Jax hard wins. The 2 things you refer to- mordes autos and passive- are both denied with Jax e. If Jax pops E when Morde turns to auto then he blocks all autos and denies mordes passive. So yeah Jax wins level 1 pretty hard.
