Lane. Last hit and deny the souls. They're worth about 35 or half the total value of a minion. There are shops in lane, so it you stay healthy there's very little reason to go back. Past that, it's like any other MOBA. Push lane, ambush other lanes, get farm from jungle, look out for mid obj, try to kill enemy base.

@@stelios9241 That number below everyone's portrait is how many souls they have. Not only are souls the currency you use to buy items, they're the main way you get AP to upgrade your abilities and they give you permanent HP and bullet damage buffs on top of that. *Having a soul advantage is basically how you win* because it snowballs (the actual goal is to shoot the big ballface thing in the enemy's base). You get souls by killing stuff, and by shooting the little soul orbs that fly out of the stuff you kill. If an enemy kills something you can shoot _those_ orbs as well to steal some of their souls from them. So at the start of the game your main goal is to just make sure you kill the lil' candle head dudes (you won't get any souls if your own candle head dudes kill them) and make your opponent's life miserable by stealing theirs, and maybe killing them so they can't collect souls for a few seconds. There are also "camps" of neutral enemies that start spawning throughout the map, they _also_ give you souls. So shooting them without missing any candle head dudes means more souls for you. In the first ten minutes of a match, if you're near one teammate, you both get all of the souls that you each collect (they're duplicated between you). More teammates and they start getting split between you instead. After ten minutes, they're split no matter what, so people in "duo lanes" are encouraged to go shoot neutral camps alone instead. You can normally buy four items in each category, that's the lil' squares in the bottom left of the HUD. The "flex slots" at the end are unlocked by destroying certain enemy structures, and obviously being able to have more items equipped than the enemy is a very good thing. TL;DR shoot lots of stuff to get stronk, prevent the enemy from doing the same, slowly push up the map until you can safely stomp through the enemy base and shoot the big weird god thing.

This is true, but going to buy can take away time he has to farm. Often on hard farm heroes it's best to farm as much as possible and go buy when there isn't anywhere safe to farm anymore. Sometimes that can result in you having 10K+ souls
