Do you know how to install modchips on that series of fat ps2 systems it seems people avoid them all together but I've got a collection growing and I want to get them gone
@TechnoOnTop4 жыл бұрын
Iv never installed a modchip a phat Ps2 only 1 slim Ps2, the reasons people avoid chipping them are because FBMC is so easy and gives all the benefits of a modchip its only real downside is it takes up a memory card slot which is hardly a downside...... Modchips on ps2's requires alot of wires taken to ridiculously small points that are super easy to ruin... Mix that with inconsistent install diagrams... You can match your model number to the diagram but there is no guarantee it will be exactly the same... At that point you have to use multiple diagrams for your install and just hope that the mixing of the 2 will be correct and ok.... Or maybe my first experience with it was just a fluke... Even though I was successful, it did make me not want to touch them again
@creeperjhgaming53464 жыл бұрын
@@TechnoOnTop that's understandable I've been doing the larger board fat ps2 and skims for a couple years now and idk I just enjoy looking at the mod chip tbh I enjoy collecting rare chips and mods but that specific model just seems to be pandoras box of ps2 fats. Either way thank you for the response and giving me your knowledge on the 3000 series.

Just a heads up: be sure your acrylic/glass/plexiglass is thin enough to clear everything beneath. There is a gap between them but my chosen window was barely too thick. I made it work but it sits directly on the disc drive's covering.
@TechnoOnTop4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing, I personally didn't have any issues, but maybe someone else would, I normally just buy whatever plexi the hardware store has and usually the thinnest but iv never made any note of the actual thickness

Hey, how thick was the plexi that you used that was too thick, if you don't mind me asking?
@GlassMaster_Jae2 жыл бұрын
@@MacSkillen I'll see if I have scraps left from it and measure with calipers. If you fit the plexiglass to the hole you cut you'll be fine but I was lazy and glued it inside the shell so there's a recess.
@MacSkillen2 жыл бұрын
@@GlassMaster_Jae if you were to fit it to the hole you cut, how would you actually attach it on the inside? By just relying on glue along the edges of the plexi, or would you make something really thin to support it from underneath, along the edges?
@GlassMaster_Jae2 жыл бұрын
@@MacSkillen there are some good adhesives meant for bonding plastics together , I'd go with that. There's also glue specifically for plexi or acrylics as well. Same principle as model kits and the glues you can buy for them. You can always use the plastic you cut from the shell to make a brace for the underside too , you'd barely even see it if you place them right. It's a lot of work cutting plastic cleanly so that's why I opted for doing the plexi underneath the shell.

Thanks man it's much appreciated! Unfortunately this project was scrapped some time ago, I would of figured painting a heatsink would be bad thing, I will have to look into that! It could open up possibilities to some sweet looking consoles!
@DarthSimous4 жыл бұрын
@@TechnoOnTop Many thanks for replying & U R correct that painting heatsinks wouldn't be great for heat dissipation. Sad to hear though it was scraped :-( ... The fatty PS2 was one of the best PS Consoles, when it came to durability & cooling - i also have a 30000 series myself - so i guess even with the heatsink painted, it wouldn't have much trouble dissipating it's heat ... Though something (much easier) is (was) to wrap-up the window with a blue tint film, thus no need for that extra paintwork on the heatsink - things will still appear & light-up that nice blue LED color ...Anyways, thanks for the vid again & U got another follower :-) ... Cheers

It's not gone by scrapped I just mean I put it in my "consoles that mostly work pile" it stopped reading disc's for the second time then I just lost interest in it. Been thinking about bringing it back, by just removing the disc drive all together, throw in some large fan to keep it quiet. Then of course a 2tb hard drive fill it with some exclusives. I was reading that there are some paints that won't effect heat dissipation how true those are idk but tinted plexi is definitely a good way around it. Anyways I appreciate the support!
@DarthSimous4 жыл бұрын
@@TechnoOnTop I see ... Thought it was scraped for good, as a console thrown away, that is ... But good to know U still have it around ... Yeah, i believe a HDD Mod installation is the way to go for fatties, nowadays ... Painting aluminum is tricky to do AFAIK, but yes, there are special paints that don't inhibit heat ... Some after-market Intercoolers for cars are painted. Yes, wrapping & tinting is a good alternative ... Will take a look on the rest of your vids sometime ... Take care :)

Hey noob question but how do I check for 12v points with a multimeter? Especially since the 5000X power board is upside down, I can't get to those solder points if it's plugged in to the motherboard. Awesome mods
@TechnoOnTop3 жыл бұрын
You need to set the multi meter to the voltage range you are testing for or that could be possible, it's hard to really tell you how to use it. I'd suggest watching a video on multi meter basics. But to solder to it you would have to disassemble it until you can get to it then very carefully plug in the ps2, remember that the Ps2 has standby power when the rear switch is on, not sure if any of this helps.
@Wildbane3 жыл бұрын
@@TechnoOnTop It was a shot in the dark. Mine autodetects voltage, I was wondering where you put the black lead for testing, and how to access the underside of the PSU for the red lead while it's plugged in for a 50001. Can it be disconnected from the motherboard and tested with just the power switch?
@TechnoOnTop3 жыл бұрын
The black lead just needs to be grounded, spots where screws go are grounded/screws themselves/metal shielding, I'm not 100% but yeah you should be able to test it somewhat, all you will find that way is the standby power,

So I know it’s been a while since this vid was made but I’m really curious of how you know what led lights to use as in voltage and ohms ? Does it matter? And when you check the voltage on stuff are you checking for 12 volts or something lower ? Thanks
@TechnoOnTop4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it does matter, more so with the resistors, I believe I used an led strip in this video, led strips have resistors built in and hook to 12v. There are led calculators available online to check what resistors you should be using, but for me I don't much worry about the voltage of the led they are around 2v depending on the color, for me if I'm hooking up to a 12v source I will use 470ohm, and if I'm hooking up to a 5v I will use 100ohm. But yeah I'm usually looking for 12v or 5v. Course in the middle could be used. Hopefully that helps thanks for watching!

@@TechnoOnTop Hi there. If i may, i would suggest you take out the laser pick-up, read the number on the backside and buy a cheap replacement, your Ps2 seems to be a V3 or 300x version. I mostly repaired 500x which are slightly different from your model and the laser pickup they use is KHS-400C. Please, avoid adjusting the potentiometers on the backside of the laser, as it is really wasted effort, and you risk to fry the diode anyway. for about 5 bucks you can find real sony refurbished lasers that works great.
