How to Winterize a Yamaha F150 Outboard Engine

How to winterize a 2012 Yamaha F150 outboard engine. The parts and directions should work for any Yamaha F150 that is a 2006 or newer. The steps to winterize this engine would be the same for most Yamahas and similar for other outboard manufacturers. Search your engines model and year for parts and torque settings.
I now have 696 hours on my Yamaha, I have never drained the VST or cleaned the filter and I was told my my dealer that would have to be done around 300 hours and the engine would let me know by bogging down once 4000 RPM’s was reached. The fuel I use contains 10% ethanol and I fill my boat using 5 gallon cans for the pump. I add Marine Stabil and Yamaha Ring Free to every can and never fill up at the marinas. I also try to keep my tank as full as possible, especially over the winter months. By following this practice, I have never had an ethanol or VST. problem.

2012 Yamaha f150 Winterizing Check List
1. Run engine for approximately 45 minutes on an auxiliary tank filled with 1 gallon of fuel and 1/2 of the Yamaha Storage and Fogging Fluid mix or your own mixture (see below in parts list under optional).
2. Drain or extract oil with pump. Torque 14 mm drain plug to 20.7 ft. lbs.
3. Replace Yamaha fuel filter on front of engine.
4. Replace Yamaha/Densko oil filter. Torque to 13.3 ft. lbs.
5. Fill engine with 5 gallons of Yamalube engine oil.
6. Drain lower unit oil.
7. Replace lower unit drain and fill plug washers. I forgot to mention in the tools list that you will need a hand pump.
8. Fill lower unit with 1 quart of Yamalube lower unit oil until the oil comes out of the fill hole at the top of the lower unit. Torque drain and fill plug to 6.6 ft. lbs.
9. Replace Yamaha water separating filter in the bilge area
10. Remove and inspected propeller and seals.
11. Re-grease drive shaft, replace propeller, and torque to 40.6 ft. lbs.
12. Re-grease all grease points, front and rear lift handles, and hydraulic pins.
13. Spray engine with Boeing Boeshield waterproof lubricant. This is made to protect the metal. Do not spray it on the drive belt.
14. Fill fuel tank with left over mix, fuel, and stabilizer. Tank should remain full for the winter to limit the amount of condensation which can create and ethanol problem by adding water to the fuel.
15. Check anodes and replace if necessary. Their is one on the back of lower unit above the propeller, one under the trim unit on the transom, and one internal anode.
16. Clean engine and put a coat of wax on the cowling.
17. Remove the batteries, inspect, and trickle charge in a cool dry place.

I made my own winterizing fuel mixture using 1 gallon of 87 octane gas, 1/2 pint of CRC fogging oil, and 1 ounce of blue Marine Stabil 360. (See below under products used)
Torque Settings:
Lower unit drain and fill screws - 6.6 ft lbs.
Oil drain plug - 20.7 ft lbs.
Oil filter - 13.3 ft lbs.
Propeller nut - 40.6 ft lbs.
Spark plug - 18.4 ft lbs.
