Hello my friend, Congratulations on the project and the smart way of working that hides great experiences. My friend, I am not very knowledgeable about electricity and electronics. You come up with an interesting and good idea. See you. Big greetings.

Also, I've got some ideas for my tool post cart and using the actuator motor for an automatic feed. Right now I'm currently using the manual wheels but sometimes it's like using an etch a sketch when I do certain types of tapers. It's never too much of an issue that some light sanding won't fix,, but it would help when I need a little bit smoother transition to eliminate some of the stop lines. I mean I get pretty crafty using the extra opinion gears as a wheel wheel as I like to call it. Or tractor wheel. I just think it'd be needed if I could get it to work. And potentially useful. Lol

I did one in my Total Shop shorty, it ran several hours then fried the board, under load resawing some 8 inch black walnut on the Stretched Shopsmith bandsaw. I will be replacing it with a scr, rectifier and choke wiring system tomorrow. Parts coming!

I have a similar treadmill motor and control board waiting for a DIY tool project. I was planning to keep the flywheel on. I think it will help maintain inertia and keep it spinning at a more consistent speed when the load changes. In the example of a lathe, you don’t want the work piece slowing down the moment the chisel touches the work piece. At least that’s what I’m thinking. Other than visual aesthetics, rust on the flywheel doesn’t affect performance. You could just use some sandpaper on it while it’s spinning 😊
@MakinSawdust
@MakinSawdust 3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with your inertia theory. I had another viewer enlighten me about the flywheel being threaded lefthanded and I could take it off to clean it. Using your spinning and sanding theory, considering the safety aspect...... heck I will count my fingers when I am done....:) :) I may get a hair in my ass and sand the flywheel to a high polish!! :)

I want to see this desktop lathe I have a similar setup. It's a sherline head stock on an 18-in bed. I had it previously running off 3/4 HP sewing machine motor. After the 4th or 5th one I burnt through. I got my hands on some of these treadmills and now working on converting. I got to go through the garage and find me potentiometer. I have both. The the MC60 and an MC2100 controller and feel I should go with the 2100 just to get the cleanest power. My big conundrum though is figuring out my pulley. I currently was running gator belts that are 1/8 of an inch. Maybe maybe bigger. It's probably in metrics, but they're tiny. Suckers. Strong if you get the gators but the stress I was putting on them was just shredding them, especially if that headstock moved at all. I tinker too much so I tend to either forget to tighten it down all the way or I'll tap a piece with a brass hammer, move it a little bit or strip out my ex bolts. I'm pretty rough on the little thing. But sherline is definitely quality stuff. Would you happen to have any links on information about ways to potentially get a bigger throughboard on that headstock using bearings with a wider ID. I think it'd be even a neat idea to rig up some kind of double clamp for some material that is longer without having to make a a jig and material holder that extends way out. I feel like a few inches plus an extra clamping jaw will give me plenty of stability and extend some work.

The flywheel? That just threads off CCW. Unless it's been modified. As far as everything else a You may be able to replace caps but they're supporting the stator via the bearing cups

This controller has a place for a potentiometer. I was hoping you were operating a controller that didn't have the connection for potentiometer.

To remove the treadmill motor which I’m sure you already have you just screw it off in reverse because it’s threaded on there. do not use a press you will destroy the motor!
