Me too , The high pressure sodium produces my favorite color of light but as I see the color of light , It looks yellow and I noticed that with high pressure sodium lights , They don't attract bugs like mercury vapor and metal halide , For me , High pressure sodium lights are less stressful on my eyes than metal halide and mercury vapor

Thanks. What happens if you run the HPSodium bulb slightly under its rated voltage. I have a choke ballast for 240 V and our supply is 208 V. So the voltage across the bulb is almost 10% lower. Will the bulb last longer or lasts less
@oz936662 жыл бұрын
As said in the video, the capacitor is optional... It's function is to adjust the 'power factor' if this is not done you will have a higher electricity bill for running the same lamp with no extra light output , perhaps about 20% higher I think ?
@electricalengineeringplane66202 жыл бұрын
very good, this is right, maybe capacitor optional but it's important for improving power factor

I have all those parts, but 2 Capacitors, instead of 1 and when I opened up the light the cables have become disconnected from the capacitors due to heat. Now not sure how it was connected up before (the 2 capacitors)
@electricalengineeringplane662028 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing! For HPS lamps, typically only one capacitor is needed for power factor correction. If you have two, one might be a spare or connected in a different configuration. I recommend checking the lamp's wiring diagram (usually found on the ballast or capacitor itself) to confirm the proper connections. If heat damage is severe, replacing the damaged parts might be safer. Let me know if you need further assistance!

Can you run 2 lights/lamps of one ballast and is there away to bring down power usage even more making them more efficient in power consumption.

No we bought the ballast 250w for example as the lamp which is 250w so we can't add another lamp

How do I choose the correct capacitor and ignitor for the output lamp wattage?
@electricalengineeringplane6620Ай бұрын
For ignitor we will buy an Ignitor which is suitable for a lamp between 150w to 400w ,, To size a capacitor for an HPS lamp, determine the lamp's wattage (e.g., 250 W) and operating voltage. Check its power factor (typically ~0.5 without correction). Use the formula: Q = P \times (tan (phi_1) - tan (phi_2)) where is lamp power, and are the angles before and after correction. For common sizes, 250W lamps require ~25 μF capacitors, and 400W ~33 μF. Use a capacitor rated for the lamp voltage. Always consult the lamp's datasheet for accuracy.
