You keep saying those LEDs are wired in ‘series’, but I think you mean ‘parallel’. In a series, voltage is shared, so each of the two LEDs would only get half of the three volts from that battery pack.

Thank you, this was really informative. Just a question from a total novice - Say I want to connect 4 or more 3V led's in a series but my only power source is a 12V - 5A connector - can I put a resistor on each 3v led - will this work or will my project go "BOOM"?

@marietjieviljoen6301 Good question- unlike batteries, LEDs don't "stack"- they don't add together and increase voltage. So you can't take four 3v light strings and make a 12v circuit. So if you connect a 12v power source to 3v LEDs, you'll likely blow some bulbs. So yes, "BOOM". Thanks for watching!

This is true. I've noticed the hot air gun is a bit more directional when handling small parts, but that can be overcome using tweezers or pliers if using a hair dryer. Thanks for watching!

With that led strip, how do I attach the wire permanent? Can I solder it? I want to use a power outlet Insteadof batteries. What would be your recommendation? Thanks for the great and clear instructions

@Hellhamster yes, you can solder it, but to use an outlet, you'll have to use resistors to reduce the voltage, because a household plug would really overload the circuit. Most off-the-shelf led stripsthat plug into an outlet have that big box between the strip and the plug (like most computers, many TVs, and smaller electronics). It's there to reduce voltage and not blow the circuits. If I'm honest, I've not researched wiring an LED circuit with resistors like that. But it's certainly doable. If it were me, I'd buy an LED strip that plugs in and try to modify it to my project and use that as a learning experience. Just be careful. I hope you get it figured out.

I review wiring strip lights in this video. You'll need to match voltage required by your strip lights with your power source and solder to the appropriate positive/negative poles. Most other types of strip lights you can get online come pre-wired with a battery pack or power supply. If I am misunderstanding the question, let me know.

It gets a lot more complicated once you start using voltage that does not match the bulb requirements. You'll have to add resistors to the circuit so you don't blow the bulbs by overpowering them. Not an impossible task by any means, but you have to do the math (and research) to make sure you have the correct resistance in the electric flow. Personally, I have yet to try it. A simpler solution would be to get pre-wired USB LEDs which come with everything working and if you need to extend the wiring just solder in extensions. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching
