Outstanding video! Excellent idea with the fuse tap. I do have a question as I am unfamiliar with the fuse taps. Do you think there is a fuse tab where I could run a light bar and some dish lights when the high beams are on?
@zachattackcustoms8 ай бұрын
Yes, you should be able to just tap into the high beam fuse to engage the relay to turn on the lights.

I have the RC grill lights that has the same wiring harness and want to do this. However, the relay I have is a little different than what you have. The relay has 85 87 86 30. So is 85 ground? 30 to the fuse tap?, 87 white (12v)? and 86 blue the trigger wire? Thanks for the help

30 and 87 will be your closure. So, hook Blue to 87 and white to 30. I can't find a diagram showing me which is the positive and the negative. 85 and 86 should be positive and negative. Before installing it I would hook 85 to negative side of battery and 86 to positive side of battery and see if the relay engages using a voltmeter checking for continuity. If not I would swap them around. @@beardeddude2613

Hi all. New F150 is the same 1 fuse for the computer of the truck and it regulates the lights high and low with other things so you will have to splice the light directly on the wire but might cause an issue with the computer as it regulates the load and light strength. Good luck i am hoing back to a switch....(sucks).

So I understand your diagram and what not and doing similar for ditch lights and a led light bar, what would you do for a 3 wire switch instead of a 4? Mine came with red, black, and just white on the switch, just go to a 3 pin 20 amp relay instead or wire white to both terminals and stick with the 30 amp relay? Thanks.
@zachattackcustoms2 ай бұрын
The rough country switch is a 3 wire switch, 2 wires are for the closure, and 1 is voltage to be able to illuminate the red light on the switch. I would have to see a wiring diagram for your switch to know what colors do what. All you need to figure out is which two wires turn the lights on when shorted together.
@Oneillnn10 ай бұрын
Would the relay already provided with the light bar be fine? No need to buy another relay?
@zachattackcustoms9 ай бұрын
You have to have a separate relay for the closure to engage the rough country relay to supply power to the light. The extra relay replaces the switch.
@VAGjewАй бұрын
I know this is an old comment, but I was just watching this and thought the same thing, and came to the comments to see if I was crazy. The second relay is unnecessary. You can just connect the blue wire from the original switch to the fuse tap and then the white wire to ground. Then when the high beams are turned on it will activate the original relay that came with the harness. No second relay necessary.
@VAGjewАй бұрын
Nope, I'm an idiot, don't do this. It works, but it sends the full headlight power through the circuit and will blow a fuse. Thank god for fuses. Definitely need the second relay.
@danlamothe760511 ай бұрын
On my 2020 it was easy, install the bar, hook up power and tap the high beam fuse in the fuse box, no splicing. I went to install a new bar on my 2024 Chevy Silverado and all was going as planned until I got to the high beam fuse…there isn’t one. Just two fuses for the right and left headlamps. Any thoughts? Or just install a separate switch which I really don’t want to do. It was super nice having it come on with the high beams.
@zachattackcustoms11 ай бұрын
Dang that’s crazy, I just looked up the manual and yea, I can’t find a high beam. I wonder if they are just using the same fuse for power and then a relay to switch between the two. I will try to look in the gmupfitter website when I get a chance. I definitely recommend checking out the website. That’s where I get all the detailed schematics to figure out how I can make wire modifications.
@zachattackcustoms11 ай бұрын
After looking over the schematics, I would check fuse F7 which is under the hood. It looks like that’s how it gets triggered. I would first check to see if it has voltage on the fuse without the high beams on.
@MikeBrown-tt4zn3 ай бұрын
Same issue here. When I tapped into left headlight fuse(no independent high/low beam fuses), the headlight, running light, front marker lights wouldn't work). They've changed up the electrical architecture for how the lights are triggered. I'll give fuse F7 a shot and see what happens.

Great video! Quick question about the connections on the 12v relay. Bottom right is for the fuse tap, bottom left is for the direct connection to the negative terminal on the battery (or any ground, right?), and for the top 2 connections, since it's replacing the switch, does it matter which wire is connected? You've got blue on the top and white on the bottom, but it shouldn't matter right since the relay is what closes the circuit when the high beams are turned on right? I am wiring a pair of Nilight 4" pod LED's to the high beams and the wire harness w/ relay looks very similar but the wires are not blue and white. So just wanted to be sure. Thanks!

Will this work with a 2024 GMC 2500? From what I understand, the 2024 wiring architecture is different in that the new headlights are triggered by the ECM to headlight mounted CANBUS for power to headlight? You could always take power to trigger the relay from the high beam light wiring.

We both have the exact same truck, except for color, and I have also done many of the same upgrades as you have……I have the Rough Country grill light kit installed and I want to also install a behind the grill light bar and wire them both to come on with my high beams……Can you tie two separate circuits into one fuse tap or do I need a separate fuse tap for each circuit? Thanks for your help!! My next modification is going to be the LED footwell lights
@zachattackcustoms3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the watching and the support! You can technically tie to into the same fuse, but I don't think I would recommend it with two light bars. I am thinking that you would probably be reaching/or close to the maximum amps on that circuit. If I remember correctly, I think there are two high beam fuses: LT High Beam/RT High Beam. I would separate them if there are two. I love the footwell lights, I have been thinking about upgrading to a better quality kit, the Bluetooth controller range is not very good on mine, I have to get the phone right beside the controller to change the lights. I would check out the OPT7 footwell lights, they seem to be better quality, but are still not crazy expensive.

Hi I need your help. I have a 5 pins relay which is 30, 85,86, 87a, and 87 which one I am going to connect blue and white cable from switch that I cut? Also which one is going to fuse tap and battery negative? Thanks in advance.
@zachattackcustoms5 ай бұрын
You will need to connect the fuse tap to the positive on the relay and the negative side of the battery to the other side of the relay. A lot of times the positive and negative connections are different colors than the closure connections on the relay. To find out which connections close, take a multimeter and select the the continuity mode and put your leads on two of the connections to see which connections close. You should hear the multimeter beep when the relay closure is triggered by voltage. The blue and white will be connected to those two connections and doesn't matter which one goes on which. You are just looking for the blue and white to make a closure.

@zachattackcustoms7 ай бұрын
Yes, you can attach any lights to your fogs as long as the aftermarket lights combined with the fog lights don't exceed the amps allowed for that fuse. I would first plug the light in and use a DC clamp meter around the Positive side to see how many amps the light draws. then I would add how many amps each fog light uses. As long as you are below the amps on the fuse, you should be good.
