Thanks!! I understand how to isolate two sets of 3 wires. Does it matter which of the two fixture wires pair up with which other set?

So between 5:00&5:20 I don’t understand the concept of wire in wire out. Is the idea to cut, place into little box, cut and have new wire coming out I have only had experience with the. Lighting packages for the big box store with sharp prongs they did ok but ready to step up to something substantial for my soon to be new home. Do you also trench to get wires buried? 4”-6”-8”?
@LightingDoctor
@LightingDoctor 5 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct, you will ha e to cut into the wire to make the connections. Search Lighting Doctor How to Bury wire and it should give you some examples how we bury the wire. Thanks for the questions

Hi, can I use the DBRY connectors everywhere in the diagram including where you have BVS connectors? It just seems like a more solid and better sealed connection. Thanks for the diagram.

Great video. Can you cover if the wires need polarity? You don't mention having the same wire as "common" and the same as "12 volt". Does it not matter, like on a 220v circuit? Or is it important to make sure the wire is the same at each fixture.
@davecowell8778
@davecowell8778 4 жыл бұрын
Most countries don’t seem to have any issue with polarity but to be honest they should as for low voltage bulbs it doesn’t matter as a bulb can generally be fitted either way round that said if working with LED lights then you need to observe polarity or the fitting may not work

Polarity is not an issue

Great video! I am curious if you have to deal with voltage drop between the transformer and the last light on the run? Also do you have a maximum number of lights you run off a transformer? If a larger number of lights are being installed, do you need multiple transformers? Thanks for a great video and simplifying things for us.

Question - Does the "Power Out" from the BVS2 Snap Lock connection need to match the "Power In"?... For example - If I am using "Common Wire" (12/2 wire with the writing on the side) as my "Power In" for a BVS2 Snap Lock connection. Do I also need to use the "Common Wire" (12/2 wire with the writing on the side) for my "Power Out" for the same snap lock connection???

Thanks for the informative video. Can you tell me how to seal off the end of the line exposed cable wire? I bought wing nut with waterproof goop inside and put both wires in there and now my lights don’t work as usual. Was I supposed to put one one but on each split of the end wire. The directions did not indicate using two and it comes in a five pack so it leads one to believe that only one is needed. Short of wing nuts can I just tape the end of the line with electrical tapes. I have searched and searched for an answer and have come up empty handed...

Hello lighting doctor...great videos! Previous owner used the prong type of fixture :( . Fixtures are no longer working and need new ones with proper connectors. Do I need to replace the 12/2 wire because it's been punctured?
@LightingDoctor
@LightingDoctor 4 жыл бұрын
It would be a good idea to try and replace where the wire has been punctured to keep water out and avoid corrosion which could shut down the whole system

Thanks for all the great tips! My only question, how do I know which wire in the cable needs to be plugged into what, or maybe it doesn’t matter so long as one wire from the cable is in each connector?

Correct christy, there is no positive or negative wire. As long as you have a continous connection of wires

I have a different question. I a have a transformer with 2 lines. One line is around house as security and second is around property as decor. Both currently go on dusk to dawn. I want to install a switch on the second line so when not entertaining it can be shut off. The line is rated as 300w each but I'm running about 100w on the line. Can I use regular single pole switch or do I need something diff.

Great videos! Very helpful. Question - I ran a 250 ft wire from my transformer to 6 LED Volt branded in-ground well lights in a daisy chain like manner. I find the light strength drops off as I go down the line with my last fixture only lighting half the LEDs in the bulb. Why do you think I'm experiencing this voltage drop? I'm using high quality Volt branded well lights, Volt branded transformer, and 12/2 low voltage wire.
@LightingDoctor
@LightingDoctor 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment really appreciate. Part of the reason you may be having this issue is that Volt is actually not as high quality as they lead on to believe. They are manufactured very inexpensively over seas and brought over and sold at a low cost. Also there is the wattage per light and then something called VA which is actual voltage. With some lower grade brands the lights may be listed as 4 watts but the VA may be as high as 9 or 10 watts, so when designing the system you have to account for this. Basically the VA measures the efficiency of the LED. Another reason you may be having this issue may depend on the connections you are using for your wiring. However from what you are describing it sounds like either the transformer may be slightly undersized or the VA is pulling more power than innitially anticipated. Great question and this is certainly not the first time we have run into this with Volt and many other similar manufacturers. Hope this helps, please feel free to email me with any further questions. You might need 10AWG wire or you need to do less daisy chaining. Sometimes I feed lights in a T formation somewhere in the middle of the lights, so the source travels half the distance Left and half Right from the middle. If you feed from Left to Right end to end, you will possibly experience significant voltage drop.
@illestofdemall13
@illestofdemall13 4 жыл бұрын
Also sometimes it is better to feed from different sides with separate transformers, and still use 10AWG.

Thank you making videos like these. Very helpful. I have a Question hope you can help. I have many up and down lights I purchased and I have 12/2 wire low voltage and 12/2 wire that is not. I’d like to use the low voltage wiring since it would be easier to install I think. And I’d like to use a low voltage transformer. Can I use a light fixture that does not say low voltage on it with a low voltage transformer and wiring system? Can I use both types of 12/2 wires with a low voltage system? Thank you.
