I did a small project & used the dotting method to fill the space I wanted burned. Mostly cause I cannot do anything in a straight line 😂 I also just didn't feel like using a ruler to lightly mark straight lines, but I might try that next time. Though, I really like the dotted look! Also, I'm happy to hear those little occasional squeaks as you burn, I was wondering if something was wrong with my nibs or the wood. Thank you so much for teaching us pyrography!

Thanks for the great and usefull videos ! :) I have a question, I make signboards with quite big letters that I woodburn (i'm a beginner) One of those that I made are outside, and now a few months later, the letters are becoming light (like the woodcolor) again. I varnished them twice with boat varnish. Do you know how that's possible, is it because of the type of wood? Of the sun? I thaught maybe you have the answer or a good advice :)

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the content. Unfortunately, sunlight isn't kind to wood burning. I'm not familiar with boat varnish, so I can't speak to its capabilities. When I burn a piece that will go outdoors, I use a varnish that has a UV protectant in it. amzn.to/3AdpmjM However, it's still not full proof. If a piece is placed in direct sunlight, the wood may change color and the burning may lighten. And the varnish will need to be re-applied at some point; similarly to how wood decks need to be treated again and again over time in order to maintain. I have a couple of wood burned pieces with UV varnish outside and they are both under awnings, so the sun doesn't shine directly on them and it helps keep them from fading. I hope that helps! I have heard lauan plywood pronounced slightly differently, depending on which part of the country (or planet for that matter) you are from. My old woodshop teacher in Ohio pronounced it kind of like "loo-Ahn"; which, like I said, depending on where you are from, the second syllable may sound like the word ''ON", "IN", or the word "ANN'.

Thanks Rose! I'm so glad you like them. Some woods aren't available everywhere. If you Lowe's doesn't have the type, I would just look for a good practice wood that is inexpensive. A lot of lowes have the birch plywood too. It's not as cheap as the launa, but it's still a good deal when you cut it. Make sure to avoid any kind of MDF or compressed woods. They are a lot of chemicals in those. Stick with raw woods.

I have gone to creative fabrica and I've downloaded alot of fonts and other things but how do I add those fonts and everything to the gimp program so I can use them?

Hey Tamera! When you install the fonts to your computer, they may show up in the Gimp selection. I’m not super familiar with Gimp, but there may be a way to install the fonts to the program itself. I did a quick google search and found a lot of videos on how to install fonts in Gimp. Try searching on KZbin and see if any tutorials pop up. Let me know how it goes.

Yes, use a mask. It's so important to protect yourself from breathing in all the smoke. Especially if you're burning a lot. I use a respirator with organic vapor filters. Mask amzn.to/3lwf4Vh Filters amzn.to/31vZFMq It also helps to get a small fan for your desk and a fan for your window. That way the smoke will get pulled away from your face and out of the room. :) Desk Fan Small amzn.to/3dlvcXv Window Fan amzn.to/3uS2NhB Finger guards are another good safety accessory. Hey Rose! On the template piece. I'm burning on the arteza birch canvas. amzn.to/2VZKkDS And the small scrap piece is the launa board from lowes. I get those in 2' x 4' sheets and cut them down for practice.
