I find it useful to show the percentage as a fraction with a denominator of 100. Then show pupils that the whole price is 100% and then we add VAT of 20%, which gives 120%. I then put the 120% as a fraction of 120/100 and divide them to get 1.2 but can also see why you choose your method.

Is VAT included in the ticket price? If I have 10 pounds in my pocket and see a book I want to buy marked 9.99, can I buy it? In Canada, you could not, because GST and PST are not included in the price. Ever. Just wondering how you do it in the UK

because .2 is .20 aka 20% i live in florida so to find my tax i just multiply by 1.06
