How to Wrap a Cable the right way over under or How to coil over under. This is an audio cable wrapping technique that allows you to store your XLR, Microphone, or instrument cables the right way without tangles. Avoid tangles in the wire with this over under cable wrap technique.

Same for me. The angle really helped and he jumped right into it without saying how he's had his cables for 20 years and everyone else doesn't know how to tie their cables (like every other video)

Ahh, that tip on "the cable wanting to move the other way" is a very helpful tip! Also, the tip of "letting the cable roll on its own on the first loop" 👍🏼

I actually love this.. I actively searched KZbin for it to help me out after a gig. Yet when it’s 1am when you’re packing away and you have a 3hr drive ahead of you just to get to your storage lock up, all this goes to hell 😂

I've been doing it as over only and noticed that when I unwind the wire there are kinks and knots in the wire. I also noticed that the wire also bends awkwardly when you only do over. I realize now that it wants to be in the under position! Thank you.

Thats the standard technique, I learned a different way that doesn’t have the phantom tangles in music school. Guess I have to do a video to share the love.

So Im not the only retentive guy! Ive been just doing the over but swinging the entire cable like a snake to take the wist off. Looks good but eventually the wires inside will shift. Thanks so much, Ill be doing this like a freek going forward.

I use to just dangle the extra cable or try to whip the twist out as I go but this technique is a lot faster and less stressful. Good video!

That’s why I wanted to show it from the POV angle, it is the closest to representing what wrapping the cable “feels” and looks like. Glad you got the hang of it!

Been doing this for many years and decided to look it up again because I swear no one actually seems to have an answer for how to throw an over/under wrapped cable you didn’t do yourself, or that has been stored for a while and potentially moved around a bit. Not sure Velcro ties is the answer really, unless I’m missing something. I still get knots when throwing one about half the time.

I'm right hand dominant (guitar and piano player) and I can't feed into my left hand to save my life haha. You should do another vid with a cable that doesn't already have a ravel-wrap memory for folks with no experiece/not theater kids/not musicians... so they can see it done from scratch. In college I didn’t learn the under technique; I learned just over but you twist counter clockwise to combat that weird twisting it does. Idk if that way is “wrong” but this looks safer? Time to re train my muscle memory 😅

For the under grab the cable from underneath with palm up. Then, rotate rotate hand when going towards coil. No need for flip.

I have been trying to convince my fellow musicians (btn a beginner and part-timers) to treat their instrument cable well by wrapping them the right way for longevity of use, but somehow got ignored purely because some are simply poor stewards to their instruments.
