@@HackMusicTheory :D Well, this is not authentic tea and purist might hate me for this, but I enjoy lemon/ginger flavored tea these days :) And currently composing lighter, summer music (tropical house for instance). Good idea to make things shorts, as long as we can still find some longer videos where we can see your motivating and encouraging lovely smiles!

As usual in your tutorials I can find unconventional solutions. The sounds of this scale sound intriguing and encourage me to create a melody different from what I have managed to do so far. Could you please give me some example chords in this scale?

Hello friend! We use Reaper www.reaper.fm but there are lots of free Digital Audio Workstations (DAW). Search online for "free daw" and try out a few. We recommend experimenting with at least two or three, cos DAWs are very personal, so you need to figure out what you like. Hope that helps, and thanks for stopping by :)

So if writing that lead in a blues or indeed a Dorian scale etc, is it important for the chords and everything else to also use that note or should be rest of the composition be in the minor to provide contrast. I’m assuming it’s the former but interested to hear your thoughts on it.
@HackMusicTheory
@HackMusicTheory Жыл бұрын
If your lead melody is in the blues scale, then your chords (and everything else) will usually be in the natural minor scale. But yes, if you prefer, the chords could be in the Dorian mode. The chords can actually be in any scale/mode that includes the five notes of the minor pentatonic scale. Regarding the "blue note". Usually you'll only use that in the lead melody, not the chords. You could, however, use it as a decoration in any layer, if you want. But, it clashes big time, so be careful! Hope that helps. Ray :)

I have been watching your stuff for years and like it. I used to like it when the phone got thrown in the intros... What shocked me today was some copycats doing your same style. I think they call it flips or flip 1 flip 2 instead of tip 1 tip 2. It made me feel sick that they would have the audacity to so blatantly copy your style. Goes against all the rules of musicians... Mmm trapped myself here. Everyone borrows and copies. Only the legends do something new, but that is often copying a trick from a different genre or era.... Ohh well..
