Hi, I wish I knew you before. All the details you bring here are so true. My CV just look like your (without the OWL part) and I receive instant interview everytime ! I just want to add that focusing carefully on your "scope of expertise" is key ! Rejections come most of the time (with a good drafting CV) from wrong targets. Sending property law CV to a legal office specialized in commercial law, corporate law or criminal law because their offers mention that it's also interesting that you know differents area of law doesn't help. From Paris ✌🏾🇨🇵, thanks again Idin !

Salaam Agha! Khooobi! Great video. As a senior associate at a Magic Circle it’s evident that Idin has really made a video with useful content. If you are new to the legal profession I suggest subscribing and getting an insight. My younger brother has just secured a TC with CC and followed Idin so I’m here and I can say it works!

Thanks for your vids, they're honestly the most useful application content I've found! I know you already have a video on competency questions, but I was wondering if you could talk about commercial awareness and how to demonstrate this in an application. Particularly in a application asking for 300 words on a time you demonstrated commercial awareness. I've had many jobs in different industries, mostly waitressing but also supermarkets and call centres, but as a student who has always worked "low-skilled" jobs part time, I don't know what kind of experience demonstrates commercial awareness? Thanks!
@IdinSabahipour2 жыл бұрын
Hey Lilian! Thank you so much for your kind comment. I don't have a video on commercial awareness at the moment (I'll deffo make one at some stage) but the most useful one I have is on speaking about deals in your application. In my opinion, one of the major ways firms want to see as "commercial awareness" is in a candidates ability to put yourself in the clients shoes. In that case all of your work experience will be so useful as you'll have actual experience of how a business works from within. So all of the experiences you mentioned are definitely useful! Watch this space for a commercial awareness video soon.

Thank you for a wonderful video! I would like to know if using the OWL method/paragraphs for sections such as work experience is preferred over bullet points. I previously watched a video where they suggested writing in bullet points when illustrating your work. I have also seen another video where they mentioned something similar to your OWL method and now I am completely torn as to what is best.

Hey Nikita! Thanks SO MUCH for watching the video. For law firm applications, I'd personally avoid bullet points unless you've been asked to use them. I think writing clear prose (i.e. not bullet form text) is an important skill for aspiring lawyers. By writing your work experience section clearly, you're demonstrating exactly that - you can write clearly! That, in itself, is an impressive characteristic. Hope that's helpful.

Hi there. The application form for the firm I am applying to has already asked me to fill in education details. Would you still recommend including them on the CV or would you consider this to be a waste of space? Thanks- Great video by the way :)

Hi, thanks for this one. it is indeed super essential. Would you please elaborate more on "tailoring the CV" kinda thing? Im a non-laa final student and I only have self-employment-commercial experiences. Any tips and advise are much-appreciated. 😇🙌
@IdinSabahipour2 жыл бұрын
Hey Hamid! By "tailoring the CV" I mean making each CV unique to match with the job you're applying to. For cover letters, I think you need to tailor pretty much every word on the page. For CVs, I don't think this is the case. I use the same CV for similar jobs while only tailoring the "profile" bit at the top.

What should the profile include/highlight?
@IdinSabahipour2 жыл бұрын
Hey Gillian - for the profile, it's just a sentence or two on what stage of study you're at, why you're interested in the job and (if it's relevant) when you're available to start. If you check out the link in the description above, there's a downloadable CV template which you can use that has an example profile in it already! ☺

Hope you read this comment😃 Hi, thanks for sharing. Can you please share reason why you would like to become a corporate lawyer instead of becoming an in-house lawyer or consultant? I just need some reference for me to write cover letter :( Video on cover letters would be super useful 🤍
@IdinSabahipour2 жыл бұрын
Hey Puri - thanks for watching! While I can't answer what your reasons should be, I wasn't really aware of the in-house qualification options when I was at uni. This may have been a failing of myself or my university (or a mix of both) to find out that information. I like being a corporate lawyer as I get to work with many different clients, in different sectors and levels of development (e.g. startups right to established public companies). While there would be many exciting challenges in an in-house role, I reckon I'd get less of that diverse exposure to different companies there. Hope that helps.
