So dope ! For my writing style, I may get little phrases in my head, And if I like it I’ll write it down, I may turn it into a song or just leave it there to come back to, It’s never forced and When I do write it comes as I write, Like someone’s telling me exactly what to write and I let it guide me

Good information. My process varies from song to song. Sometimes I'll come up with a concept to fit the beat, or I piggyback a whole verse or song off the concept/flow of the first few lyrics, other times I already have free lyrics that I match to a beat. Sometimes I'm deliberate with what I want to write, other times lyrics come from random moments that happen throughout the day, or maybe I freestyle a couple nice bars that make it into a song. Occasionally I'll use a rhyme dictionary if I get stuck or feel like I'm forcing something.

I like that part, you actually write every concept you get, so that you use it in the future. As for I tend to forget the way my concept is going or how the flow went, so I use my phone, actually I make a full song most of the times. Just raw recording on my phone. Tho its hard to get back to the same recording and re-record it.

Angel, that’s the story of my life at times. Battle Rap is a beautiful art form to watch for the pure enjoyment of lyricism. But sometimes the randomness of the lyrics and the multiple references told in those rounds are not the best example for songwriting. So I hear you!

I've been writing beats for years- Over a decade- I've always known I've had a semi decent voice- and I've done some small harmonizing for house tracks n what not- but I've come to realize that Artists get much more popular, much faster than Producers- and usually- The artist is the person who gets the recognition. I've recently been really wanting to start trying to rap- And something I've always done that really helped was the freestyling absolute nonsense until it becomes something coherent- However I've never had the confidence or *direction* to make a serious attempt at putting out a song with my voice as the forefront of the song- but I'm ngtl *these tips- as simple as they seem- actually might've been the boost i needed- it definitely gave me a few tools that I can ALREADY SEE working for me* I mainly just kind of want to put some of my frustration into words and then use my music and voice as an outlet for it.

I always start with gibberish because I care more about the musical aspect of my thing. But in my understanding sometimes you need to let the beat do its thing so I put little stops where the beat is strong. Besides, stops help your flow be more dynamic, more rhytmical and it gets easier to break the one you're singing and shift to another one. This way your flow will not be over-repetitious, thus boring. And the beat will also shine where it's supposed to. Sometimes I start rapping before or after the verse intro. This also makes a verse intro more badass and exciting. When the beat's and your stars allign lyrics and punchlines will start rushing in because you will be feeling it and your brain will be getting the gist of things. All in all, just listen to the beat more carefully and it will show you the way.

Usually I'll listen to a beat while I'm walking and mumble words until I get an idea I usually go home write it down and it becomes a song after that or I'll grab words from a song I didn't finish and I'll use those words for a new song or ideas that's my song writing process

Well im a little late to the show, I'm an old newbie if that makes sense. Trying to step my game up for a real important song I want to write and I never thought about the rhym cluster. Usually I write with words already in my head that rhym and go through the process of fitting line for line with that rhym. Thank you for that tip. How about writing a hook and should I do a bridge?

This post is so on time bro!!! I cannot tell you how valuable this is. I love the rhyme clusters idea. I just tried this today and it really got my ideas flowing and kept me focused on the content of the song when I got into actually writing the verse. I been using Lyric studio and it's definitely a dope tool. In my song process I usually start with the mumble melody method and then fill in lyrics afterward. Again, thanks for sharing!

I don’t rap anymore, only produce. But when I did I would ALWAYS mumble gibberish to get my flow down and then I’d turn them into lyrics. But another key thing that I’d always do is I’d imagine how my favorite rappers would sound on the beat I’d make, or the beat I’d feature on, and I’d take inspiration from their lyric writing style. For example: if I was on a beat that I’d spaz on, I’d imagine how Eminem or Tech N9ne would sound on it and how I could make the verse sound like my own. If it was a more mellow track, I’d imagine how Kendrick or J Cole would sound and I’d find a way to make it sound like me.

There’s no way around putting in the hours of practice necessary. The goal shouldn’t be to try to be better than anyone except yourself. If competition determines your success you’ll forever have to move the goal post. Most of all, you have to learn to fall in love with the process no matter where you’re at.
