How to Write a Historical Novel - Historical Fiction

Writing a historical novel based on history is challenging. Here are 3 tips when working on your novel:
#1 - Don't Forget Your Protagonist Motivation
We all know the exciting historical event or period inspired you, but don't forget to give a compelling and concrete reason to track the main character.
#2- Showcase Multiple Reactions
A bad writing approach is to only include one side of an argument. Give the audience a nuanced viewpoint with many different points of view.
#3 - Determine Which Facts are Concrete
In your research you may discover facts that are generally not understood to be true by the general audience. Be careful, what people remember or think is true can be hard to shake. When writing fiction, stay on the side of caution in terms of believability even if that means having to be inaccurate at times.

3:21 "...most of the time." Depends on the subject of your rant. It's also important to note that in so many words, you're basically saying a few sentences later that history is written by the victors. The "right side" and "wrong side" deal you were mentioning. I'd also argue that while characters need antagonists for a good story it's flawed antiheroes and sympathetic villains who really help to bring out a thoughtful discussion of the differences between then and now. Otherwise, these videos are ideal for anyone looking to become an author of good historical fiction.
