I've been writing songs for a very long time. I have studied many writers and composers. Now I have the actual names for these techniques. Thank you for giving me yet another tool for my craft.

Damn I always come up with new vocal lines for the chorus, didn't know I could just sing along to the original riff. Thanks!

Finally!!! This is exactly how I've been writing all my songs. I knew I couldn't be the only one doing this. You don't even need to know guitar to be creative. I have so many songs and I don't know one chord. 😅

Writing a song (lyrics + melody) over a riff is very different and affective. But honestly. A song could be written over anything. Chord progression, drum and bass or a keyboard riff. But a bass riff is the most funkiest.

I just don't like these song writing videos. everybody can write. forget everything and just write. It verse bridge chorus, verse bridge chorus, solo, verse bridge double chorus. I think this is so worthless. Thank God I didn't go to Berklee.

Idk man, if you go on reddit or instagram memes, there are loads of musicians (guitarists mostly) complaining that they can come up with a riff but they can't complete a song. I personally know many of these kinds, am hopefully just getting out of the "I can only write riffs" stage. Maybe you have a knack for song writing then?
