Until I started to watch your videos and take your calligraphy course I didn't even know that white ink looked so beautiful and fancy on envelopes and artwork! I just bought some brown envelopes and will be practicing with this ink too!

Love the info in this video. I was worried about putting water in the original jar of ink. Always thought I’d need to transfer some to a mixing jar. I was never sure about how much to transfer nor how much water I’d need.

I'm so glad that this video clarified that for you! If you do end up with WAY too much excess water -- and, again, that's rare -- you can always just leave the bottle out overnight with the lid off to let some evaporate out. :) But yes! Go ahead and use the original BPW jar; no need for gunky ink transfers!

I am addressing black envelopes for a wedding and would like to use white ink. I am using a flat nib and would like to know if I can put this ink in a cartridge for my calligraphy pen. Or in a reservoir of a calligraphy pen. I appreciate your advice

Hi Christine! Unfortunately, no -- this ink will clog up your pen. As far as I know, there isn't a perfect opaque white fountain pen ink that combines the desired opacity with the fluidity needed for fountain pens. You'll either need to use a gel pen and the faux calligraphy technique or a pointed pen as shown in the video -- sorry about that! I purchased J. Herbin white ink. That too is very opaque. But I find that my thin strokes appear a tad thicker with this ink. Why is it so? (By the way, you are the reason my bank reserves are being depleted. Like you say, even I have become an unapologetic hoarder😁😁🤗)

I'm not sure why the upstrokes are a bit thicker with the Bleed Proof White -- maybe more gum arabic in the mixture? I do appreciate those thicker upstrokes because it makes the words more legible, even if they look a tad bit less delicate!

I’m surprised to see you dip the nib directly into the jar. Is there a reason you don’t use a dedicated white paint brush to apply the paint to the nib?

Because it's much, much easier/time-efficient to dip directly into the jar. :)

I have some colored inks that I find do not flow well. The up strokes are the worst as you indicated. Do you think that a dab of water will correct this problem or do you think that the inks are just not a good quality ink? They are speedball brand.

I would try a little bit of water to see if the flow will increase...if that does not work then it could just be the ink unfortunately :(. Best of luck!
