Hi Abbie! I'm about to publish my first book as an early teenager. It's a middle grade fantasy with a mild enemies to lovers subplot. It is going to be a duology and the outlining of Book 2 is in the works. Before I found your channel, I was falling prey to perfectionism; comparing myself to professionals, discouraging myself, and pressuring myself to have perfect writing. Then I found your channel (early into the outlining process). You flipped the switch and reminded me to write what I love and that my opinion matters most for this story. It re ignited my passion and I can't believe I'm about to publish. Thank you, and rock on 🩷

Interesting video. One of mine biggest pet peeves in fiction is when the writer takes the easy way out in love triangles by killing off one of the competitors. So for the sake of being different, I've always avoided doing that in mine stories. Right now, I'm dealing with such a triangle in one of mine own stories, so I have found this to be incredibly useful.

Hey Abbie, I’m writing an AU ( Alternate universe) and I use your videos to make sure my OC’s and plot feel realistic and relatable. Kind of each video I Try and check all the stuff and see if it checks out for a Main character or even side character ( lol I have so much OC’s ). Sometimes I wonder if I’m going too deep into my AU, but thanks for the video’s you’re a real inspiration and great writer.

Love this video!! I find it so interesting of how people fall out of love with each other. Because we often see people falling in love with each other instead of falling out of love with each other. And I love the falling out of love trope where a person sees the other person's true colors and personal interests of doing things. I find it so interesting.

I truly appreciate the quality of content in your videos - resonate very much with me and also very well put together. Thanks for everything and more success to you always. Rekha from India

My two characters basically "fell in love" out of physical attraction. Its 1960s texas, two guys. The younger guy had a huge crush on the other and thold him. The other guy wasn't ready for relationship. They only really went out as there wasnt anyone else to fall in love with, so it was easier to create the ending where they end the relationship (quite violently) as there was never anything particularly real other than surface level. And then they very much both ser each others true colours.

@ailmbwywicwoelilmhs thanks, I usually think of a trope first to subvert. So I did historical romance, but I thought what would it be like if the two love interests were actually products of their time. And it sort of expands from there.

Hi Abbie! I normally dont leave comments on a youtube video, and when i say that, I mean, like ever, anyway, I just wanted to say that you have helped me write so much and have helped me progress as a writer even though I'm only a teenager. I use your character profiles all the time to help me better understand my character, but one of my morally gray character has psychosis (bpd, schizophrenia) They see visions/flashes of the people they've hurt in the past. I have done a lot of research on both of these mental illnesses, and I was just wondering if you could maybe make a video on how to write these schizophrenic visions(they are like scribbles and etc) and show that to the readers because I'm just a lost on how to approach it.

My favorite most is my most hated. The fall-out love, which is the 2 main protagonists, when one is still madly in love. There is so much potential for character growth for dealing with the separation, but then it's ultimately solved by proposing at a baseball stadium.

My first try at a romance was #3. There was someone else. In this case it was the hero's twin sister, who he would drop everything for whenever she needed him. Including his girlfriend. The girlfriend said she understood and would always love with him, but she wanted to be his number one, and she knew his sister would always come first. She's there for the rest of the book, and introduces him to his new love; a girl who's just as close to her brother as he is to his sister. Someone who can understand him. And that's when I start putting everyone through the wringer.

I think the most naturalistic reason for two characters to fall out of love is that she violated his trust. While she will apologize and expect forgiveness, if he acts with integrity by refusing then she can learn an important lesson in being accountable for her choices and actions as she copes with loss. This isn't an escapist fantasy kind of story but one focused in the process by which a couple either grows together or doesn't that isn't based on ephemeral feelings of excitement. Even in the examples cited in this video there can be another perspective on the breakups that have the female character at fault for destroying her relationship. Dropping the reliable devoted guy for the wealthy bad boy. Failing to get attention from a busy male partner she seeks it from another. Today rates of female unhappiness and mental illness are increasing while middle aged single women can't understand how they were unable to secure the marriage she desired. Instead of fiction propagandizing an ideal, more fiction should help such women explore realistic life lessons through the experiences of fictional characters.
@ReealosАй бұрын
I dont agree. There shouldn't be a norm of what kind of relationship people should write about. It should be as the author imagined. Why is the perfect man the ideal? Probably because the number shows it is worth to write about that, rather than something else. Value means to be worth something for someone - or in our case, in publishing: for the majority of people. Today's women want to be treated like a queen but they don't want to put the same effort into a relationship. Sad but true.

Just finished reading a paranormal mystery where the two characters fall out of love in one universe due to distrust only to find each other in a parallel universe. Then once again they split due to complications of an age gap and the arrival of a more appropriate suitor on the scene. The female protagonist, who has been pushed away by the man who has memories of what happened on the other universe, tries to make the new relationship work (mainly to make her parents happy), but the spark is not there. The underlying love between the two protagonists brings them back together. And that is not even the end of the story.

I’m writing a novel where my MC begins the novel in a 3yo relationship with his partner, they’re both compatible, in love and passionate but during the novel which span over a year, they grew apart bc my MC has anxious attachment style and his partner has avoidant attachment style, so they breakup (which causes both characters to have their dark moment) and later realize that they need each other but also that they have to change, and the novel end with them getting back together. Also it’s not a romcom or anything and it’s not the main plot, but do you have any advice to share ? Particularly to write a good romance + growing apart the thought they have to break upand realization ? Thanks !!

@AskAbbie Hi abbie im writing this book where my MC 's love dies and he has to move on and fall in love with the actual love interest. But the problem is my mc is VeERY depressed after her death and i don't know how to make him refall into love without doubting himself. Also im not sure how the other girl is going to fall in love with him bc she knows that he had massive feelings for the previous love interest. They're also are enemies to lovers so that makes everything a whole more complicated. Please someone help😢
@CelestiaGJАй бұрын
@eshalakhter4492. I may not be miss Abbie but I do have an idea. (The real love interest see’s your main character and how much he is suffering from the blow of losing his love. She wants to try and help him not be so depressed, and at first she doesn’t really have any other intentions. As time goes on she begins to realize that she is falling in love with him, and eventually he realizes it as well.) Also don’t be afraid to make your main character doubt himself. It’s perfectly normal to go through those emotions after losing someone important to you. If you try to make him not doubt home than it may end up seeming like your MC isn’t very realistic. I hope this suggestion helps. ❤
@whisperwindqueen-x7hАй бұрын
@eshalakhter4492 Just a commenter here, but you know what? You SHOULD make him doubt himself as he’s re-falling into love! It’ll deepen your story, and be pretty realistic. Grief is a complicated thing, and sometimes comes with unreasonable guilt. And I know u said you’re not sure how the love interest girl will fall in love with him knowing he had feelings for the previous love interest, but don’t be shy to explore her doubts and complex feelings, too! Love and attraction is also a complicated thing! It’s not a straight line! Your story already sounds like an interesting read! I wish you the best in it! 👏

I usually Don't like critiquing these types of videos but this one seems to push the concept that your characters can just fall in love or out of love without any choice in the matter. The truth is the opposite, you choose who you love. The problem with pushing the concept that you don't have control is that people have assumed that because they don't always obsess about they're partner they must have fallen out of love. This has caused many a divorce has been caused because they don't try to keep the relationship. I hope Abbie doesn't fashon her real relationships after this formula because if she does she will never have a happy relationship.
@mikasa_sucasaАй бұрын
I understand that you're talking about fiction. But don't you think that overly simplistic views on love and friendship in fiction affect real people? Don't you want to address more substantiated and ultimately more valid reasons to fall in and out of love? In the end, you don't want someone to stay with their abusive partner because of 'passion' or for someone to leave their partner because of their own view of 'passion' (which may not be realistic). So I agree with your opinions about style and structure, but I disagree with your opinions about motivations in characters. You might want to explore attachment theory further and incorporate its consequences in your writing.
@yay29823Ай бұрын
I think abusive situations end up being more simplistic then too people just not being compatible, because you have a clear character to root against
