Let's talk about mood and tone - it can be a bit illusive, but there's something truly spellbinding about the mood or tone of a story when it stays with us long after we've closed the covers. Mood can make your story recognizable at a glance (or on Pinterest), and it can help us to feel immersed in a fictional world. So in this video offering, we're going to look at what exactly mood & tone is made of, and how we can use it in our own unique stories and styles. I hope you enjoy!!

🏄 A BIT ABOUT ME ☕️
I don't call myself an author because I don’t believe in labels.
I believe that story is art - that it's sacred, and that it is and has always been a force that changes and shapes our world. That's why I write, and that's why I create videos (even co-produced an environmental film). I consider the world my home, and enjoy submerging in unique cultures nearly as much as I love submerging in the ocean and riding the waves. I am the author of the young adult urban fantasy series The Blood Race, and am currently working on several new series's. Though I can be hard to find, I am easy to reach (and very fun to talk to) at: kate@kaemmons.com

What is your FAVORITE BOOK with a whole mood? What kind of mood are you hoping to infuse into your current story?📖✨

It's incredible how you and your sister have this superpower of filling us with emotions. Personally, it's easy for me to get into decisions, when it comes to write, based on racionals perspectives, but when you start thinking about feelings and start feeling this emotions you are in a completely different game and writing your character's voice become more easy. Thx for this, greets from Brazil!

This video is a mood. As for the mood I want to infuse, I haven’t thought about it until now. I can feel it, but can’t quite describe it, but at least I’m thinking about it.

I adore the Archangel trilogy by Sharon Shinn. I first read them in high school and each book has its own specific tone or mood based on who the main characters are and where they are in the history of their world. It's a science fiction series that follows a few hundred years of this human settlement on a new planet with "angels" and a guardian space ship that the residents of the planet worship as a god because they've turned away from all technology and forgotten their origins. Over the course of the trilogy, more of that knowledge (which is clear to the reader from the beginning, so I'm not spoiling it) is revealed to the characters themselves and it's a beautiful thing, kind of exploring spirituality and science and human rights and I'm about to go read it all again. There's this incredible sense of discovery and exploration throughout the themes of all three books. Two books came out after the original trilogy, but they weren't my favorite, so I tend to focus on the first three. Anyway, I'm working on a book now that I want to convey a sense of hope and momentum. The truth I'm screaming from the mountaintops (as your sister says) is: YOU ARE NOT STUCK WHERE YOU ARE. You can always transform and change your life. Thank you for another amazing video! 🥰

I begin writing projects with mood lol. Everything else I can mastermind, reskinning unused concepts, but mood is something which must be captured and nurtured when it strikes

That was helpful. I have read books and admired the tone the writer accomplished without being able to parse how it was done. The details!
