You are an excellent teacher, clear , concise, and have a good demonstration of the results at the end. I have been struggling with lyrics for 6 months after 40 years, thinking like a poet (very different skills, etc, don't get me started). This has helped a lot. Jimmy Webb came across my radar for the 1st time just a few weeks back. Since then, he seems to be everywhere I look. Which is my failing surley, not his. Thank you for this.

This a great overview of key parts of Tunesmith. I read that book a year ago and took a lot of notes! I also agree with another commenter about this being the best song you’ve put out on this channel to date.

The idea for this channel is great and unique. I would love to see you do someone like Neil Young, Connor Oberst, or maybe even go more towards different genres like hip-hop. I personally would love to to see a video on somebody like Kid Cudi

amazing work and the song really feels like something I would listen to on a daily basis... also, are you planning to cover Ben Gibbard's songwriting style? I think he has some of the best lyrics I ever heard. Can't wait to see more!!

Beautiful piano theme. Love it. I really like these series on songwriters/songwriting. . I maybe would experiment with a vocal chain ... so that your voice becomes more of the focus instead of the piano. I mean that in a positive way. :-) . [ I'm thinking of a bit of compression, a bit of saturation, reverb and limiting ] See if that works for you... [ hope so ] 🙂 . Thanks + subscribed.

What a cool concept for a video series! I have a question: I've had some moderate success with the method of writing the lyrics out in prose form, then making them fit to the music and creating rhymes by phrasing things differently. Have you ever tried this? If so, how did you feel about it? And do you know of any artists that write their lyrics like this?
@TheSongwritersWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
I haven't come across any yet, but it sounds interesting and is somewhat similar to the letter writing method that Jimmy talks about in his book (see my first video on Jimmy for more). I used a couple of lines directly from my letter for Santa Fe and then wrote lines to rhyme with them. Your method would be an interesting way to approach lyric writing, I'll have to give it a try sometime!

Please do a video on the greatest living songwriter besides Dylan…Jason Isbell ✅

Love both Dylan and Jason's music, I'll have to look into their processes. Thanks for the recommendation!

I could almost never write a lyric and then the music. They has to be at least a seed of a melody when I start a lyric. But, that's just me.
