Mr Causey explains how to write and use PROPER scientific notation. Remember that proper scientific notation has only one leading digit. So, you need to move the decimal point to the left or right to make that happen. If you move to the right you are basically dividing and your power is negative. If you move to the left you are basically multiplying and your power is positive. Adjust your exponent accordingly. Scientific notation helps with very large numbers and very small numbers by reducing the non-significant zeroes.
