+Arjun Andra It may seem so, but it is not. This is because even though he is, in a way, narrating an incident, it is filled with detailed descriptions of all five senses (except taste of course).

@@TheEnglishTeachertuitionkit Hi so my exam is tmrw and one of the questions was to describe a coffee shop and your thoughts and feelings, would it be possible if you looked over what I wrote and helped me, please. It was a small space, it feels like the walls move closer to you every day, the windows are like telescopes to the future but the tinted windows discourage you, every day the same thoughts rush to your head about how you can get to a better job, walking from the cash register to the machine and back became like a dance routine, every day there is a shimmer of hope when you meet new people, are they nice, mean, or irritating. The few minutes you get as a break during the day goes by in seconds, sitting on the shaky, beaten chair with flakes of coffee powder and an array of sweets and snacks spilled like something just exploded. The shop has a deafening silence in the night and the morning has people taking lazy baby steps to enter and they exit feeling happy and fueled and leap through the tall glass doors. The only thing that makes me sane is my midday escapes when I dump all my thoughts to the chirping carefree birds who care more about me than the people in my life, also the gentle breeze flicking my hair up and down. My job is simple, crafting every drink with utmost precision and seeing the gentle and hesitant smile on the many that get served by me. Getting through the tempting coffee mugs that just end up sitting in your house and collect dust and the useless gift cards and greeting cards that you never use can actually be impossible to get through without buying with the colors glowing and hypnotizing your eyes, seeing different signs that say offer or sale or limited time can trick the kid inside you and pull you in. Finishing up the day carrying any leftover food like Santa Claus on Christmas day to the many unfortunate homeless who are dirty and miserable and hating life, serving them with a warm dinner reminding them of their childhood puts the biggest smile on my face nudging me to come back to work the next day. After several slow months, the unbreakable bonds you make with other inmates are amazing, laughing about the various different people and the chatting up a good looking girl who thinks she is so much better than us and flicking her hair that slaps us back into reality and reminding us that we are just coffee shop people. Watching heart-melting birthday surprises and heartbreaking breakups make Netflix and Hulu look like garbage. The day silently ends and I walk out with gentle strides and take a sigh before I lock up and walk down the empty streets and shining stars hoping for a better morning.

when you write a descriptive piece you need to have a section where the atmosphere has switched (eg. happy at the beginning then switch to sad). to do that, sometimes having a flashback or a scene that you’ve made up (but still related to the picture) can help. i hope this makes some sense?

The question was describe your morning walk A thick mass of slate grey fog covered the water like a mosquito net. It prevented any unwanted sunlight from reaching the ground. Searching for its next target, the brisk wind whirled over the still waters. Mingling with the fog, the smell of moldy mud slithered through worn dirt track. Faint whispers of grey blue stretched out in lazy ripples, like the brushstrokes of a Renaissance era painting. Wandering through the banks of the lake, the jagged dirt path framed the placid waters. Dotted around the track were: tired benches, reluctant to be used again; olive-green palm trees shivering in the cold; and clusters of rocks and pebbles which were weathered away by the elements. Elderly men and women drawled along the path like soldiers in the world war two trudging through the muddy trenches. Disrupting the monochrome greys of the fog a streak of azure blue into the water like a shuttlecock smashed at 400 km/h. The neon blue bird was now perched on the branch of a palm tree, quite proud of the fish that it had just caught. Its spread its wings revealing a plumage of dazzling orange and brilliant blue. I could not believe such a beautiful creature was such a viscous killer. Peering over the low hanging mist, the palm tree stood waiting for the sun to come out. Lines of white, spiraled along the stone grey trunk of the tree, it looked like a marble column straight out of ancient Greece. The tree's slender leaves fanned out of its center, overlooking the placid waters of the lake. The tree felt cold and lonely: it was shrouded in fog. Dawn broke, trickles of sunlight bled through the mist. The fog was losing control. As the sun rose, shafts of light started to burst through the once impermeable mosquito net. The golden warmth of sunshine hugged the dirt track. Rejoicing in the arrival of the sun, the palm trees basked in the balmy morning weather. Warm wind caressed the morning walkers and joggers as they circled the lake. The tranquil turquoise water shimmered and dazzled, shining brighter then the North start. The glorious sun was victorious and had once again risen to dissipate the early morning fog.

It was too broad in my opinion. You used imprecise metaphors, and every sentence was hyper focused, independent line that had the feeling of several needles stabbing here and there. You used the colons and semicolons wrong. They are used to elaborate on a single point, not string together several different ones
