Thank you so much for publishing this incredible videos!! Danke schön! It was very helpful thank you for clarifying the fact that we don't have to put pictures on the CV here in the U.K, which I have shared this video on my all social media for my friends and I will always recommend this education video to my friends in the future if somebody asks me how to write a CV, I will happily glad to refer them to Sandy makes sense who you always make sense. Finally, I am so proud of you Sandy among other people and Career consultant I met in my life and went to institute previously, you have published amazing tips on the Internet, you have made astonishing video and it is so incredible. Gut! Gut gemacht! Gute Arbeit! I am so sorry for my message! I do look forward to seeing more videos soon.

Very well worth video.The initial segment of your CV, situated at the highest point of the page, ought to contain your contact subtle elements. This is the exceptionally essential stuff: your name, physical address, email address, and telephone number. cvcrow.com/

This is super helpful! Though I still have one question: What about people who are applying for their first job? Who went to university straight after school, who didn't get the chance to work somewhere yet, or do many internships? Basically "newbies" in the adult world? Is it like an instant red flag? That's one of my biggest worries. I'll be in university for a couple more years, and I really hope I'll get an internship here and there, but I feel like my CV will be incredibly empty when I'm finally going to apply for my first real job. :(

Best bet is to find a weekend bar job or something similar. Any work experience is good work experience, and the money is useful to help you through Uni.

Mina Try and do something in the field you are interested in. I took unpaid work in my field but when I went for my first job I was in like Flynn as I had showed a commitment to my field whereas those around me had tended bar or waited tables. That impresses more than someone who has spent it in bed but someone who can show they are interested in the type of role goes further with me.

i graduated 2 years ago with a bachelor's in English, and i've been rejected from EVERY single application that i've submitted. At this point i feel like a low life and like i won't ever find a real job besides bullshit 10 dollar an hour jobs. I'm sick of it. I didn't partake in any internships or volunteered. So i really don't know what to do anymore. Any tips?

dominique windrim I found a company I wanted to work for and offered to work gratis and they gave me 3 months and then I found another company and did another 3 months gratis and those 6 months gave me the experience I needed but my subject was more specialist so in effect my study is my job so that made it easier been since those struggling 6 months I have been employed solidly for 20 years this year. I think it was all about gaining experience then and it still is now. Recently had someone ask me for a few months and from that he now has a job in London. Good luck. I take it you are in the US and if so move to Seattle as seems to be an abundance of jobs there and a friend of mine went a few years ago and never looked back. He got that job after telling our boss to f**k off too so they must not be too fussy. True story. Sacked from one role and flew 5000 miles to another. I did not have to travel that far but sometimes you have to travel to where the work is. I think we all struggle in the beginning but I am lucky enough to walk to work now but taken me 20 years to get to a point where I make the demands on recruiters. You will get there I am sure.

Keywords are important .. include as many keywords as possible relevant to your background and position you are seeking. Think about this - what keywords is the recruiter likely to search for if they are staffing for your intended position? Then put those keywords or combination of keywords into your resume, preferably at the top.....

Hi Sandy, Thank you so much for making this video, this helps a lot! I have several questions for you: 1. I've seen other CVs where you have to write a paragraph about what you did in each job, then have another section with bullet points to write your 'Delivered Results', do you see that often or should I just stick to your tips and write down bullet points only? 2. Do you need to write down your GPA under Education? 3. Do job recruiters actually care about your interests/hobbies? (I read on the internet that some find it unnecessary) Hope to hear from you! Thank you :)

I would say 2 pages of A4 but if you have extensive experience 3 pages is fine. I agree no pic but I will also say I scan down to interests and if there is anything which interests me I am more likely to bring them in for interview. The last CV's which spring to mind I saw was for a person who liked the same sort of music as me and a woman who thought work was as much about having a laugh as it was getting the job done. I hired them both. I see CV's all the time as my roles tend to short and include an element of restructuring. I often receive the same old same old just insert different names and different universities but then every once in a while I see something that sparkles and makes me think I want to meet this person the chances are they will do well if I feel like that about their CV. I probably should add not everyone is like me. I dislike corporate drones. If that is you keep it plain and simple and apply to pwc who will pay you big money but if you want to work somewhere with a little personality add some of your own. That is my point of view only and I am sure it will not suit everyone. For me it is more about matching your personality to the team. I tend to think anyone coming for the job can do the job but if they are the right person I can teach them what they need to know but bear in my mind for my wanting personality in the workplace I have been called ladies parts today already and maybe I am but that is my take on CV's as an employer so feel free to take or leave as I am sure I hold a more unique point of view due to my background. I think it helps if you have an idea about the company first and this is where the recruiter comes in so ask them what the company are looking for in this position. If they are good they should be able to match you. One role I interviewed for I was not interested in the job as 90 min commute or over 2 hours public transport but I went for the interview and we were such a good fit it is still the role where I have spent the most time to date. I owe the recruiter for pushing me as I really did want to interview as middle of winter and 7pm in the evening but she was right. My current role is in my general field but not a role which was a good fit as more specialist but they liked my personality and employed me. CV wise I am definitely a bad fit but personality wise I am a good fit. Still out of my depth in the role though. Never underestimate the power of your personality. They say employers make up their mind in the first 7 seconds. That is rubbish for me. If I have someone in I will give them 30 mins to an hour if they interest me and then make up my mind. I judge a person on what they say not the cut of their clothes. Also I ask very few why should I hire you questions. I am more likely to say so tell me about your motor cross training or what sort of short stories do you write?

Hi Sandy! I'm currently at University in the United States for Human Resource Management and I am interning this summer as a recruiter. I'm a US citizen but also a German citizen and my goal is to move to London after I graduate in May of 2019 (a year from now). Do you think it is best to move to London before finding a job in recruiting or do you think it will be possible to secure one while I am still in the US? Also, when do you suggest starting to apply for jobs in London? I know in the US companies can take a bit to contact you after you apply for a position and I was wondering if you find that to be similar in the UK as well. I'm very terrified of moving to London as I don't know anybody there, but I feel like I can't miss this opportunity before it becomes more difficult for non-UK citizens to move to London freely and potentially get work. I watch all of your videos and any help would be appreciated.

Mmmmm careers advice from a 12 year old "expert", most of it ignore, it's ill conceived and not very accurate! Standard structure?? depends on the job you're applying for and the whole aim is stand out from the crowd.

@Caroline-qo3wx
@Caroline-qo3wx 7 жыл бұрын
Standing out is simply showing that your professional. You would be surprised that when people try to do something "unique" to stand out it becomes CLUTTERED and CONFUSING and that is a HUGE TURN OFF TO JOB EMPLOYERS! Employers want to see that your are FOCUSED and PROFICIENT in your work no matter what position your applying for. So yes, in a world where people think standing out is important sometimes standard trumps all when your advertising yourself on a piece of paper. It takes 6-10 seconds for an employer to look at your resume and decide if they are going to take more time to actually read it or throw it straight in the trash.
