Someone needs to write a Cinderella retelling where Prince Charming has face blindness. It explains why he doesn't recognize her. ☺️

I'm working on a retelling series now. One is a retelling of Neverland where Captain Hook's daughter has to protect a fairy and save Neverland. Another is about sisters Snow White, Rose Red, and Briar Black. When their mother is accused of being a witch, the sisters are separated. Each goes on a journey to become who they were meant to be. Briar Black becomes Maleficent. Snow White will become the Evil Queen. And Rose Red is a Robin Hood. I also have an idea for a noir mystery fairytale retelling 😄

For research purposes, I recommend Lucy Cooper's book The Element Encyclopedia of Fairies. It holds a tonn of information, no druid's, summoner's or exorcist's inventory is complete without it!

I mostly write crime fiction, but I have started writing horror and folklore has become and important source of inspiration.

#cinderella idea maybe the prince is blind but the people do not know that. but when he is dancing Cinderella says her glass slippers hurt while dancing. So he gives her a foot massage. when she runs and leaves her shoe behind he is looking for her by knowing her foot.

I am SO glad I found your channel!! I can't tell you how frustrated I have been about this topic. My favorite fairytale is a Norwegian folktale about a princess named Tatterhood. It sprang from the "beautiful twin/ugly twin" trope perspective, but I loved Princess Tatterhood because she was not your A-typical, beautiful princess, and was sort of a two-fisted hell raiser. Her motives were pure, and she stood up for what's right even though it wasn't popular. As a youngster, I just wanted to "see" her, to know more what she was like. Since no one gave her a story and a voice, I did. I was so afraid that it would be considered inappropriate to write it as new, so this video makes me feel so much better. I wrote it as a young adult book, (linked below), but I am now considering a full adult novel! Thank you both SO much for putting this together! ❤

So in mybold draft I included a creature of Aboroginal Australian culture. But, over time, I decided to talk to some aboriginal people from a variety of cultural backgrounds about it, and after some reworking the character went from a potentially problematic side character to a fully fledged member of the main cast, and so far the people I asked before seem to approve of the changes.

First question got me thinking: i have used folklore for crime fiction. Or rather a story that is a fairy tale (Mozart's Magic Flute), which freely inspired the characters and plot.

This is my second time watching this, because this is one of my favorite subjects! I am all about mythology, fairy tales, and folklore. And I’m writing a novel that has elements of YA Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, and Retellings, with a Celtic mythology base. Plus, horses.. 👀

I was thinking about basing a story off of Mulan(The original ballad, not the Disney live action remake), and this video just popped up in my recommended, thank the gods for that. Edit: I was wrong about which version of Mulan the story would be more based off of, it is Disney's animated version, not the ballad, I apologize.

I’m doing a supernatural thriller/dark fantasy series where I’m blending Celtic mythology, Christianity, fairies, elves, dwarves, demons, angels, and more. All I can say for now is that it’s set during the Hundreds year’s war spanning over Burgundy, France, Scotland and England, I can’t wait to see how this series develops. I think the only question I have is can I make my fairies evil, or is that crossing a fine line?

Well, do some research on European fairies, especially in the UK. They can be temperamental… 😉

There is an easy way to have the Prince not knowing what Cinderella looks like make sense. You have a masked ball (I wanna say I've seen a version of this, but can't remember for sure) where everyone unmasks at midnight. Except Cinderella can't because she has to get outta there with a quickness (because oops the time). So the Prince never gets a look at her face and all he has to go on is the shoe.

The "Cinderella revenge"/"Cinderella's animal friends get revenge" is not in the Central European-original tale; the darker Brothers Grimm version came after the Charles Perrault version. The /original/ original is a Greek tale that is pretty simple and bare-bones. Yeah, "Sun, Moon and Talia" is not something that I want to be retold as a romance between the princess and the guy. (The fact that it ended with them marrying and it's okay because the wife was a murderous shrew so we can just ignore what he did... That's messed up.) Maybe instead one where she sets out to find the answer to "Hey, why did I wake up from a magical slumber with /kids/?" She meets the guy who did it and his wife and teams up with the wife to get revenge. -And they fall in love.-

Fear of the unknown is always the worst. In my stories, set in the future, people can transform/shapeshift into mythical creatures and frightening biped cyprids. You never know who is what it is too late.
