Underrated video, Mark... Not only did you change my perception on how important resumes truly are, you provided the roadmap on how to make a good resume in a simple, yet impactful manner!

Love your video. Will share with my software engineering students. One tip I usually add is to position Projects before Experience on the resume if the student has no related SWE experience.

Great callouts, especially for newer folks. You can cut up the first couple of bullets for your "intro to typography" channel, lol. Remember that the second person who reads a resume is usually the Hiring Manager, after your resume has passed the recruiter screen. They are typically going to read just the first couple of most recent bullets, so invest heavily in those, taking your advice on business value. Don't give in to a simple chronological ordering here---put the highest impact things first. Education and skills should only be at the top for junior folks. People reading experienced candidates' resumes go straight to experience. Nobody cares that I graduated from college w/ a CS degree over 20 years ago :) PS This is an interesting new, "Light Mode" version of your videos :)

Great call outs for things like educations & skills being at the top for junior folks. A big asterisk to these videos is that they're targeting students / junior folks as those are the only ones I can speak to from my personal experience. So cool that you noticed the "light mode"! Do you prefer it over Dark?

@@markbenliyan Target audience: yes makes sense. Keep making content for those folks 🌱🔜🌳. Honestly I prefer the dark mode, although the light mode is also high quality. I think the contrast between you and the background in dark mode makes you stand out more and the lighting is more dramatic on your face. I'm no cinematographer though, I'm struggling with lighting on my own channel... 🔦

I've been using a software called Overleaf for building my resumes. It has a bit of a learning curve at first, but these are the links to the templates I recommend on there 1. www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/jakes-resume/syzfjbzwjncs 2. www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/awesome-cv/dfnvtnhzhhbm (I use a modified version of this) Anything similar to these simple styles on your resume platform of choice would do!

Imagine calling out resumes for looking sloppy when "formating errors" is on the screen.

🤣🤣🤣 solid catch btw not sure how serious you were but my goal here isn't to be calling anyone out! This is just me sharing what's worked for me and common gotchas I've come across. I don't think I'm some resume guru lol
