Just a note: In regards to the bowsprit rigging on the yard arm for the running rigging. I found that instead of drilling holes down to the underside of the hull, that if I drilled holes at the front of the Forecastle just before the split at the bowsprit, then I can run the thread thru that. I start on one side. Tie it off, then run the thread to the Bowsprit yard arm, then to the tip of the bowsprit, back to the other side of the bowsprit yard arm, then back to the hole on that side. Feed the thread thru and back to the bowsprit yard, back to the tip of the bowsprit, then back to the yard and finish it off at the hole I started with, tie it off. Boom done. I wish there was a way to post pictures in these comments. It's easier to show how I did it than explain it.

Thanks for sharing this tip. That is a perfectly sound idea. I might use that on the sloops I just built. For the larger ships, I have looked at, especially the ones that have actual arsenal models available, the bowsprit lines are secured lower than the forecastle which guided my placement. Your suggestion is an excellent one for all models and I am so pleased you shared it with the community.

Thank you for this rigging guide. Have ordered the starter and enough other sets two build two fleets. Also ordered some tools and threads based on this tutorial series, to rig the ships. Thanks again for this will be so much help when I get to finally rig mine.

@@DZSabre I've watched your rigging videos which are ace BTW! Could you just give me a quick lowdown on what order i should be doing the rigging? Is it (from your videos) Basic -> Next Level -> Backstays -> X-treme and finally attaching sails or could it be done in a better order?

On the 1st and 2nd Rates that have two Bowsprit Sail yards, I presume that for the yard closest to the hull and Dolphin Striker, the threads would go back to the Foremast just under the first fighting top, but where would the threads go from the other Bowsprit sail yards? Would they go back to the same place as the first yards, or would they go up to the next higher point just above the middle yard on the foremast???

the running lines from both spritsail yards go to the lowest top. At least that is how I see them run on the arsenal models and the actual HMS Victory. One interesting point though is that the captain of the ship had a lot of discretion on how some of the running lines were run on the ship so though my sources (for the Spanish navy and the HMS Victory) show it to the lowest top, it is not necessarily wrong to run the foremost spritsail running lines to the next top up on the foremast.

What brand of fly tying thread are you using? And is it waxed or un waxed?
@DZSabre11 ай бұрын
it is unwaxed. Both are from Unit-Thread by Unit-Product, Inc. The black is 6/0 size and the tan is 8/0 size. You can get it at Feather-craft.com or Bass Pro Shops
