I will never forget watching Bosom Buddies. My mom and I laughing our heads off. It was one of those shows that you talked about the next day in work. Great show. She was the one who picked Kip (Tom) as so funny and cracked her up constantly. As Tom talking about jokes they made themselves, I remember Henry picking up his clothes out of their closet with Ron Popeil’s Pocket Fisherman. Only some of the audience would catch that. I thought it was hilarious.

Or that time when they recycled the old "stuck in a cabin during a snowstorm" plot. Looking for food, they opened a pantry door and there was like one can of beans. And Scolari said, "Great, we booked the Dick Gregory suite!" Hardly anyone at the time remembered that Dick Gregory had gone from 1960s comedian to a diet/fasting guru.

Loved Bosom Buddies. One of my favorite all time shows. I have the series on DVD and they had to cut some scenes because of the rights issues with the songs that were used in the show. The Billy Joel song "My Life" that was used for the opening credits they couldn't even use and that was pretty iconic for an opening. The end credits had an instrumental song and that was the song used for the opening credits on the DVDs, but with lyrics. It wasn't as good, obviously. And I remember a scene where Kip and Henry were in jail and there was another guy in the cell with them that was intimidating so you think it was going to be trouble, then they cut to them dancing with the guy (played by Ernie Hudson), and they were all singing "Yakety Yak (Don't Talk Back)", so it showed that they were getting along. But, on the DVD they had to cut that scene out. So, it was pretty choppy. I wish they would get the rights and re-release a DVD set with all the cut scenes back in. Peter Scolari and Tom Hanks had great chemistry and worked so well together. I liked that Hanks gave Scolari a cameo in "That Thing You Do." I always thought that two of the guys in the band were kind of like another version of Kip and Henry. Edit: Tom Everett Scott as Guy and Steve Zahn as Lenny are the two I'm talking about.

Maybe if I saw Bossom Buddies now, I would appreciate it.

Wait, what does he mean "We became... almost too tight for some people on the show."? That others were jealous, they misinterpreted their brotherhood as something more intimate, or that the studio didn't have as much control over them if they were a united front?

The latter. When two stars speak as a united front, they can demand certain things from the producers. That’s what the stars of Friends did.

I had a real epiphany about "Bosom Buddies" a few years back. I always thought that the term "Bosom Buddies" was always referring to Tom and Peter's characters friendship, but I dont think it was. I think the term was actually in reference to the women they became friends with while living in the all-woman housing complex. I imagined a cigar smoke filled pitch meeting where some cigar munching exec says, "let's call the show "Friends with Tits", and then somebody says, "No the network censors would never go for that, I know! let's call it "Bosom Buddies"! in obvious reference to the main characters newly acquired buddies all with ample bosoms. Then they all congratulated each other on a job well done then went out for dinner and drinks. What do you think?
@RodCornholio6 күн бұрын
Never thought about it until I read your comment. I still have my "kid mind" way of thinking about it. I didn't even realize what Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop" song was about.

It never occurred to me that it was anything other than a play on the word bosom because they were in drag.
