It's true though. I work in the alcohol tent at a festival where I live. No one can be served alcohol without an ID bracelet from the festival itself. The server would be fired on the spot and escorted off the grounds. Most of those servers are there because they NEED the money. Tip them well.

It's my company policy as well. If it's expired it's not a valid Id and I cant serve you. If it's not on your person I cant serve you. We get in major trouble.

I as a server have to take a class every few years to even sell alchol and if I get caught selling to a minor can be heavily fined. Also if someone comes into my restaurant and drinks then is later in an accident I can be charged with for getting them intoxicated and potentially go to jail.

I think Hanks understood that, he was saying how ridiculous the policy is. It happened to me just the other day . I bought some cigars in a Walgreens, and they asked for my ID. I'm 64. When I whined about it everyone said what you said. I know that. Hanks knew that. What is the logic in it? What is the rationale, when someone is obviously 'of age'. What does expiration of id have to do with buying booze or cigars? If expired ,does that mean they're not anymore an American. They're an illegal alien? It makes zero sense. I honestly don't understand why people get so upset about blanket ID requirements. I get the annoyance at having to have a secondary ID that you have to slog through half a mile of wall to wall people for, but not why people get mad that a minimum wage worker doesn't have the power to change the rules for them. I've worked places where the ID had to be swiped into the register to unlock the sale. Yes, I can hear you've been smoking for sixty years, I still can't make the register work without your ID. You drove here, you should have one. For the record, I think Tom Hanks is a sweet person, and he handled it relatively well, but this is not his most flattering moment.

Yes, it is a bit strange to have to show ID for a beer but the same happened to me in Dayton Ohio (40ish at the time and half-bald) - they insisted on ID. It just means there is no arguement from an 21 year old (or whatever age is legal in that country) that they can legally buy beer.

That happened once to Carol Burnett. She was in Bloomingdale's, I believe. It was early, the store just opened. She needed to provide ID for something, I think a check. The salesperson said if she did her Tarzan yell, they would positively know it was her. So she did it, and several security guards came running up!

That's a firm rule of the festival. The servers/bartenders CANNOT serve alcohol to anyone without the festival's official 21 bracelet. I have worked at a couple, I would have been fired on the spot, no matter if it was one of the performing bands or Tom Hanks, and escorted off the property to never, ever work or attend the festival again.

Richard Davies - Assault rifles (fully automatic) are heavily regulated. Still, to purchase one the buyer must be of legal adult age (18 yrs) and meet a litany of other requirements. They must also pay a tax to the government for this “right.” Oh, the starting price for an assault weapon is easy in the $15000 and up range and the paperwork through the government takes the better part of a year to be approved. If you’re mislabeling a semiautomatic Rifle as an assault weapon, they’re still required to be of adult age and by a person not prohibited from owning firearms.
