Wow, i didn't expect Tom Araya coming back this younger after his retirement and change for playing guitar. Massive improvement, now he had a real instrument :P. Nice review btw!

I clearly heard a difference in voicing on OD1 and OD2. When the voice light was on, it sounded a lot heavier and more gain-driven on both counts, which is great. It allows you to get whatever distorted tone you are after.

I'm a proud owner of this amp after trying many amps the past few years...firstly Blackstar you have done an outstanding excellent job with this amp, I have had a sound I've been trying to get for a very long time but unfortunately never found, until now...forget any negative reviews this amp is a beast for metal, punk, rock, blues, or clean, takes pedals excellent and the power scaling is awesome too...I can't fault this amp in anyway ❤❤

Just starting to dive into the world of separate amps and cabs, I was intrigued by this video. I looked up this amp on Sweetwater, and I'm not sure if this is common among more expensive amp heads like this one, but it has multiple outputs on the back to you enable matching the ohms of the amp to just about any cab. Brilliant!

Okay, I did NOT need another GAS-flarer on a Tuesday morning but WOAH!!! How does it sound so perfect? I've played through the HT Stage MkII combo a little bit and really liked what I heard, but this sounds a tad more refined and clearer. Nice to see the USB-C in the back, too! Blackstar bringing the humble yet mighty Chooob amp into 2023 like a champ. P.S. - can't believe Kaylen was born in 2005... makes my back hurt just thinking about it. (He has a cool channel, tho, so that's awesome!)

Yeah this is a VERY good amp. I had a MKI a long time ago but this certainly sounded more fun and more responsive with nothing that was unnecessary.

Haha when we were filming with the baritone it was funny Andy says he’s playing in “G” proceeds to play where G is on baritone and I totally forget this looking at where he is on fretboard like why has the G changed location?! 😆 this was fun too, we def learned how we are all different.

I don't understand how can amp companies can keep their signature sound for decades? They are using the same tubes, but what mostly plays a role in construction of amps that give them their own tone.

I dunno, I bought a Fractal FM9, and after some time delving into it (I have hooked up to an ElectroVoice PXM-12mp wedge monitor) I have a REALLY REAAALLLLY hard time justifying the cost tube amps (let alone cabs) anymore.

The voicing on od 2 get just a little more low end. But is not so much that is gonna make a big differns when you play with other instruments like drums and bass. Od 1 was more of a differnce but still not so much that it gonna be heard when you play with a band.

#42GSFive YAY old people high five. Well I will have to try one but as per the mark ii it's tinny, reverb not great (nothing that cant be solved with pedals) but No MIDI with a modern 6 voice amp that's a bit pants.

PJD has so many QC issues it's crazy for the price. I've seen everything from wrongly positioned bridge (guitar won't ever be in tune), to bad fret spacing (guitar won't be in tune unless you replace the neck with properly laid frets), or the nut being cut with incorrect string spacing (again, the guitar won't be in tune). They made huge waves a few years by sending KZbinrs amazing guitars, but their actual production models are hot garbage, but they still ask for Gibson or Fender level prices.

Do your homework on Blackstar amps before you buy one. They have NO support in the US for their amps. Getting schematics is not easy as they dont offer them to the public and 90% of techs will not even work on the amps. Thats not good. Tube amps need a tech from time to time to keep them up and running, if you cannot find a tech to even touch the amp.... what do you do when they fail ? And the Blackstar failure rate is high, hence why you see used ones going for peanuts. Spend the little bit more and get an amp that techs will fix and save yourself the hassle. Im shocked that Blackstar amps keep being discussed like they are. Im a tech and i wont touch a Blackstar or a Mesa amp as they are NOT and NEVER will be easy to repair. At least Mesa is there to help (a little bit) but Blackstar as i said has NONE/ZIP/ZERO US support systems if you have an issue and their amps are not made to be repaired but to be thrown out. They are like the new Chromebooks of amps.

Blackstar HT amps are not tube amps: they are hybrid amps. This lie has survived for more than a decade.
@darkstarrtech
@darkstarrtech 11 ай бұрын
Can you explain? It has a valve preamp and a valve power amp, so what makes them hybrid?
@Robstafarian
@Robstafarian 11 ай бұрын
@@darkstarrtech Firstly, the preamp includes a what is essentially a built-in distortion pedal. Not only can this be seen by looking inside the amp, it is obvious because the amp only has two preamp valves. Also related to the quantity of preamp valves is the second reason the Blackstar HT are hybrid amps: they use a solid-state phase inverter rather than a valve phase inverter. This means that one preamp valve should be subtracted when comparing the quantity of preamp valves in a high-gain, valve amps to a Blackstar HT amp. Before I explain the importance of a valve phase inverter, consider the number of preamp valves in some common high-gain valve amps: Marshall JVM410: 5-1=4 Orange Rockerverb Mk.III: 5*-1=4 Peavey 6505 1992 Original: 5-1=4 EVH 5150 IIIS: 8-1=7 Mesa Boogie Triple Recto: 5-1=4 Mesa Boogie Mark VII: 5-1=4 Soldano SLO: 5-1=4 Fryette Pitbull Ultralead: 5*-1=4 Friedman BE-100 Deluxe: 5-1=4 PRS Archon 50: 6-1=5 * Quantity shown does not include preamp valves used for other purposes, such as analog reverb. As you can see, high-gain, valve amps have many more preamp valves than a Balckstar HT amp has. Getting back the solid-state phase inverter, a valve phase inverter in critical to the various effects of cranking a valve amp's master volume. To keep things simple, consider a Marshall Plexi and a Marshall JCM 800. A Marshall Plexi has three preamp valves, including the one which was subtracted from examples above, and the sequence of overdrive sources is as follows (with the latter two requiring a very-high volume setting): 1. cathode follower (part of the preamp which helps with the tone stack's load) 2. phase inverter 3. power tubes 4. output transformer The Marshall JCM 800 2203 had the same quantity of preamp valves and cascaded two gain stages to add a new, primary source of distortion. Its master volume was such that said control must be cranked to engage the latter three overdrive sources. You may recall that the JCM 800 is notorious for not being high gain and requiring a pedal for all of its iconic metal tones. The phase inverter is generally (i.e. not specific to either of those Marshall amps) also responsible for various harmonic content, and some amp designers (e.g. Dumble) are quite meticulous about this aspect of their amps.
