@@dgart7434 You don't understand why Putin wanted to invade those territories in Eastern Ukraine. Because he wanted both Azov and Black sea to belong to Russia. In Crimea he, his oligarchs and cronies got villas and businesses there and they needed to short drive from Moscow to Crimea. Not to mention the industrial regions in that part of Ukraine. @@silverwolf6866 unlikely since this is probably temporary since Ukraine doesn't aim to held on to that territory mostly likely just to divert Russian resources out of Ukraine. Reminding that Ukraine could strike at Russia at any time will force Russia to commit more forces on defense in the future rather than allocating all its troops on Ukraine like it did before. in the future we will see a Russia that have thinner front line. even if Ukraine retreated out of Kursk Russia will likely still commit more resources in defense as they would likely won't let his happen again. giving Ukraine advantage on Ukrainian soil as they will fight fewer opponents in the future.

Maybe this is what The Ukraine is thinking. Not sure. When you look at The American Civil War, the one big lesson about war that I see is that strategy matters more than tactics. Grant and Sherman really thought strategically. Sherman's march was about stripping the Confederacy of supplies. Grant saw that the Union needed to pin down Lee. Grant and Sherman are thought of by many as lesser tactically, not something I claim, but strategically they were excellent. Please note that logistics are not something I think as secondary either.

It’s too early to tell whether this offensive will have strategic significance in the war, but here are a few potential effects: 1. Russia must now more seriously defend its border with Ukraine. Before, there was an asymmetry where Ukraine had to fortify their side but Russia didn’t. 2. Ukraine’s morale has been boosted. 3. Ukraine have shown that the West’s fear of escalation was partly unfounded, and now the restrictions on Western weapons has been further eroded. 4. Ukraine has exploited Russia’s inability to adapt to dynamic warfare, particularly in places that had no military logistical support previously. This was also displayed during Prighozin’s march on Moscow, where there was no response from Russia’s military. 5. Russia will eventually need to divert resources from other combat areas. 6. Russia will be forced to retake the Kursk territory occupied by Ukraine. This may cause Russia to continue attacking longer than the natural culmination of their Summer advances in the East. Attacking causes more attrition than defending in this war. This may cause further strain on Russia’s military.

@@yoyomodiji I think it is a good decision up to now. The suprise created quite a divertion and boosted morale. But they should pull out now. The element of suprise is over. We all watched when Putin's russia thought that they could take kyiv within 3-4 days😂😂. We all watched when ukraine thought that the counter offensive could push the russians out. But what we've seen is complete opposite, now militarily the truth is ukraine goals was to divert attention and relieve some pressure from the east fronts, what if russia exerts more pressure there instead and force ukraine to re-think. These are very complicated times for both russia and ukraine generals. Remember if you take a high risk gamble you could either have it your way or end up with a demise of your own creation, time will only tell as it does always.

Actually, Ukraine's defensive border hasn't changed in size, it's Russia's that's expanded. Russia was allocating a disproportionate amount of resources to the front line, while largely ignoring the defense of its borders. The necessary change of that posture is going to spread Russian resources thinner, taking pressure off the front line and hopefully creating opportunities for Ukraine - perhaps in Crimea?

Most of you who underestimate Ukraine's efficacy, should know that they have been for 2 years fighting a huge army and constantly learning and developing modern warfare tactics. They can lecture other countries on how it's done. Let alone the fact that there is a constant supply from USA and UK. Which by the way are in need of feedback from this modern warfare without taking an economic blow like Ukraine is.
