In the Czech Republic, we celebrate Christmas from December 24 to 26. According to the old Czech tradition, the Christmas tree should be built on the evening of December 23 or during the December 24, when it is the day we call ŠTĚDRÝ VEČER (Christmas Eve or SVJATY VEČIR). But many people carve a tree much earlier. The tree should remain until January 6, we call this day the Three Kings (TŘI KRÁLOVÉ). But some leave the tree until the end of January. The most common Christmas tree is fir, spruce or pine. Ščedryk - the words are very similar to Czech. Gifts are unwrapped on Christmas Eve, traditionally the presents are carried by the omnipresent but invisible person called JEŽÍŠEK. Santa Claus is not popular in the Czech Republic because he is not Czech. Who is hated is DĚDA MRÁZ, because he is a symbol of Russia for the Czechs. Ukrainian dishes are unknown to me, but I noticed that you have typically Czech buns with cherries.

Hi! what an interesting excursion into the Christmas traditions of the Czech Republic, thanks. That’s interesting that we have many things in common and the language is a bit similar - “sviat vechir” is the same in Ukrainian. I hate also DED MOROZ, unfortunately many Ukrainians still use this disgusting character.

To make your tree last longer you buy a plastic water bowl stand and put the tree in it! It will make the tree last all month if you water it every 3-4 days. That’s how we do it in USA 🇺🇸

Дякую❤️Regarding recipes we cook pretty ordinary Ukrainian dishes, but the secret key ingredients are butter and sour cream almost in everything 😀
