3:14 Alliance's annoyingly big emphasis on heroes & spells feels more of a fundamental flaw rather than a level design flaw. I don't really think it can be "fixed" nor is it (mainly at least) the fault of the stages themselves. How do you design a level to be hard, while also making the towers more important? Remember when 3 guaranteed reinforcements was basically a pay2win feature in KR1 Flash? Remember when heroes were there as a supplement to your defense past the first 2-3 waves, rather than your main driving force to beating levels? It went from "Heroes support the towers" to "Towers support the heroes". I praise KR's fundamental gameplay for implementing some of the genre's former RTS roots back into the gameplay to an extent, but to me Alliance almost feels like closer to a RTS game in general than a Tower Defense game. I'm not saying I dislike it or anything, in fact I defend it an unhealthy amount, but the game just fundamentally can't and will never become one of my favorites in the series, no matter how good future elite stages get. It's a pretty good, above average RTS game by itself. Anyway I seriously need to go sleep

I think there are many ways to make towers more important, and while this could be a video in itself, I will explain in this reply nonetheless: 1.) Give the player more gold to work with, not just at the start but through the enemy spawns. 2.) Spawn more enemies and don’t give space between them. Heroes have cooldowns and need to regen health, not to mention they can’t be everywhere at once. A constant stream of enemies would massively buff the role towers play. 3.) Design fodder enemies that can be spammed without overly rewarding the player with gold. 4.) Design enemies with abilities that are better countered with towers than with heroes, or at least countered by using both like Poukai Riders.

@@Voduke789 That could work, however making enemy waves dense and numerous in enemy counts is something I don't expect Ironhide to do at this point.

honestly, I really want to complement the beta testers for having a HUGE impact on a lot of Alliance's qualities, and Ironhide for listening them. this makes me very hopeful and excited for the future of this KR (loved Undying Fury), and its quickly becoming my favorite one

I don't know if you've touched on this, but have you noticed that after the original 3 KR games, enemies have gotten less numerous, more tanky, and more damaging? idk, I remember when artillery was able to 2 shot squishier enemies on even higher difficulties, and barracks could actually be a source of damage at times. Nowadays, it seems that all enemies are far tankier, are more numerous, and barracks no longer have noticeable damage output against them.

While I have some more gripes with the levels themselves - particularly about how it felt like we got only 3 or 4 new enemies instead of 8 - I completely agree with your sentiments about the balance changes. I also think the Challenges, especially the Iron Challenges, did a really good job letting some of the enemies that barely appeared in the campaign get more room to shine. In particular, the Misty Ruins felt very elegant: the heroic was very short, which I think was a very good decision to make, considering they didn't have much to work with in terms of enemies or elements, and it was tied to a level that already felt stretched out. The iron challenge felt like a little puzzle, in which you wanted to block the enemies from the 2 right paths before they get to the Wierdwoods, but let the Revanent Rangers going down the top path make it past the Wierdwoods and make sure you deal as little damage to them as possible in the process, since there aren't enough stratigic points to completely block them before the Wierdwoods. So the challenge felt like this 1 puzzle we've had to solve, and it fit really well into the iron challenge format in my opinion.

Stregi was a flop. 4 out of 5 abilities that does little to no damage was a crazy design choice the 5th one being potion. On one hand, she's a squishy hero with a large attack range, on the other hand 2 abilities needs her in melee range. Please make her like not clash. And designs like this has been done well before, Jack is my favorite hero in the entire series because all his abilities combo so well together.

For me, it's less about the expansion and about the new sub-challenge that I find most enjoyable: trying to set new records for Twilight Longbow Damage. I've been seeing some pretty crazy 4-digit stats on Steam lately.

I really liked how the Boss was ACTUALLY a Boss. I lost to him in my 1st attempt. I won in my 2nd but then lost again in my 3rd play through. It was really enjoyable to be challenged by a Boss made by Ironhide 😅

Thank you for bringing up that the expansion is more halloween then elfs. I was really looking forward to an expansion giving origins the full vengeance treatment with a corrupted version of blade singers decimating all my blockers and so on. But that being said the enemies are well designed with some cool mechanics so I cannot complain. I still hope that origins will have its time to shine in an expansion of its own to either Alliance or Vengeance.

But seriously, I'm glad that enemy abilities are not overwhelmingly imposing and difficult to counter, unlike some other mini campaign I could mention... I think it's better this way than " "buffing" some towers like you said. The main objective should be fun!

The way to truly fix Alliance is to just make all the towers and heroes dogs, then make all the enemies cats. Truly then would it be peakdom rush. (I have no substantial comment to add to this video so yeah)

i encountered one glich when using longbows at first boss some rats after being invisible are just not targeted by anything even heroes or reinforsments and streaming kingdom rush games on DC is just anoying bc cursor just vanishes before pirate DLC launch it got fixed for moment but after this got broken again :(
